#16 Golden Bears dominate Minnesota Crookston to stay undefeated

CSP put up 37 shots and only allowed one in the 2-0 victory over UMC

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Haleigh Bares set the pace as the #16 Concordia-St. Paul soccer (11-0-2, 8-0-2 NSIC) recorded a 2-0 victory over Minnesota Crookston (0-10, 0-9 NSIC) on Sunday afternoon at Sea Foam Stadium. With three weeks remaining in the regular season, the Golden Bears still in second place in the NSIC sitting behind Augustana by only two points.  

Concordia improves their all-time record against Minnesota Crookston to 14-6-2, moving to 7-3-1 when playing at home. This is the third year in a row that the Golden Bears have defeated the Golden Eagles by more than one goal. With 11 total wins, the Golden Bears have the most victories in program history. 
 
This was the team's 10th shutout so far this season, which ties last year's record for most shutouts set in a single season in program history. 

It was junior Haleigh Bares who put CSP on the board first, taking a pass from senior Hannah Pedersen and putting the ball in the lower corner of the net to give the Bears a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute. This was the Belgium Wisconsin native's first goal of the season and Pedersen's team leading sixth assist on the season.  
 
The Bears continued to threaten in the first half, dominating with controlling the ball 64% of the half and with 23 total shots while putting eight of those on net. The Golden Bears defense held the Eagles to zero shots in the first half. Concordia saw twelve different players take at least one shot in the first half. Leah Johnson and Hannah Pedersen led the shooting barrage with each putting three shots up. Crookson's keeper Jacqueline Burke made seven saves while only giving up one goal in the 23 shots she faced. Jordyn Clark didn't have much action as she played the whole first half without a save or facing a shot. 
 
The Golden Bears continued with their aggressive approach in the second half, out shooting the Golden Eagles 14-1. UMC had a chance in the 51st minute as Maggie Pederson broke the Golden Bears defensive line and got a shot which was saved by Jordyn Clark, who dropped to her knees to make the save. That would be Crookston's only scoring opportunity in the game as freshman Sophie Pawlyshyn took a tic-tac-toe pass from Jessica Timpane and Hannah Pedersen to score her first collegiate goal of her career and Jessica's Timpane's first collegiate assist of her career. In the 82nd minute goalkeeper Sarah Golemme came in for Jordyn Clark to close out the shut-out victory for the Golden Bears. 
 
Minnesota Crookston's goalkeeper, Jacqueline played the entire 90 minutes for the Golden Eagles making 10 saves and suffering the loss. Jordyn Clark played in 82 minutes making one save and was part of a shutout victory with Sarah Golemme
 
Concordia set a season high with 37 shots in this game, this is the third most in program history and the most shots in a game against a DII opponents. CSP outshot UMC in shots on goal with a 12-1 margin. The Golden Bears had a total of 13 corner kicks in this game. Leah Johnson led the way for the Golden Bears offense with six shots in this game with two on net, Hannah Pedersen took five shots in this game with one on net, and Ciara Bailey and Sophie Pawlyshyn each took four shots with one on the net. Sammie Zgutowicz and Jena Berkland each had three shots in this game with seven other Golden Bears took at least one shot in this game. 
 
Head coach Steve Bellis commented on his team's victory over Minnesota Crookston, "We dominated for two periods and struggled to break them down as well as we would have liked. But I am happy with another six-point weekend." 
 
The Golden Bears have five games remaining of regular season play, with one of their five games being played at home. The Golden Bears will be back on the road next weekend as they head to Moorhead to take on the Dragons on Friday at 3 p.m., they will then head to Aberdeen South Dakota to take on Northern State on Sunday at 1 p.m. Both games will have live video and stats, with links that can be found on the soccer schedule page.
