Box Score

WAYNE, Neb. - The Concordia-St. Paul women's basketball team (14-5, 10-4 NSIC) fell to Wayne State (13-7, 8-6 NSIC) 71-49 at Rice Auditorium on Sunday afternoon.

Cold shooting and foul trouble led to CSP's first loss since the January 4th. A day after shooting their highest percentage of the season, CSP shot just 25.7% from the floor and 4.5% (1-22) from three, while the Wildcats shot 39.3% from the floor and 37.5% (6-16) from three. The Golden Bears also battled foul trouble, as four of their guards finished the game with four fouls. The Wildcats held fairly significant advantage at the free throw line, as they shot 21-27 while CSP went 12-18 at the charity stripe.

Lindsay Dorr led the Golden Bears with 18 points and 10 rebounds, collecting her eighth double-double of the season. The senior center also added two blocks and two steals for CSP, and now has scored 14+ points in 18 of 19 games for the Golden Bears. Anna Schmitt was the only other Golden Bear in double digits, posting 13 points on 6-13 shooting while also contributing seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

Wayne State was led by a pair of sophomores, Erin Norling and Haley Busse. Each posted 18 points for the Wildcats, with Busse knocking down four three-pointers and Norling grabbing seven rebounds.

Wayne State got off to a hot start, scoring the first seven points of the game. Concordia was able to close the gap to four on a Kyrah Fredenburg three-pointer, but would come no closer for the remainder of the game. Wayne State held CSP to 3-15 shooting from the floor to take a 20-9 lead into the second quarter.

The Golden Bears got off to a strong start in the second frame, scoring the first six points of the quarter to bring the score to 20-15 with 7:31 left in the half. The Wildcats answered with a 7-0 run of their own to take a 12-point lead (27-15). The margin fluctuated between 10 and 12 points for the rest of the first half, with Wayne State leading 37-26 at the break.

Concordia came out with energy early in the third quarter, as Dorr made a lay-in from the post and Schmitt swiped a steal and sunk a transition layup to bring the deficit to seven. Concordia would not be able to lessen the gap in the third quarter, but still trailed by single digits for most the third period. Wayne State closed the quarter on a 9-2 run to take a 51-36 lead into the final frame.

The fourth quarter was more of the same for CSP, as they struggled to get going offensively and were unable to trim the deficit below 13 points. An 8-0 run early in the final frame by Wayne State made the score 62-40, and the Wildcats were able to hold onto the lead to claim the win.

The Golden Bears will return home to the Gangelhoff Center (where they are 10-0) for their next pair of games. CSP will face Northern State on Friday, February 1st at 5:30 before battling the NSIC's leader in wins, Minnesota State Moorhead, Saturday, February 2nd at 3:30.
