Bears fall to Lakers in 2018 dome finale

Heinl registers hat trick while Hentges nets a pair

ST. PAUL, Minn. - For the first time in 2018, Concordia-St. Paul (4-3, 1-2 GLIAC) has dropped back-to-back games, falling 22-5 to #18 Grand Valley State (5-2, 3-0 GLIAC) on Sunday afternoon in the final indoor game at the Concordia Dome at Sea Foam Stadium.

The remaining three home games on the schedule are set to be played at Sea Foam Stadium with the bubble removed. With the season's longest home stand of three games now complete, Concordia hits the road for four straight GLIAC games, heading to Davenport (Mich.) on Thursday, March 29 for a 2:30 p.m. (CT) contest.

Sophomores Kailey Heinl and Maddie Hentges teamed up for all five of Concordia's goals with Heinl leading the attack with the hat trick to give her a team-high 17 goals on the season. Hentges' two goals put her at 14 on the year including a team leading 23 points.

Concordia deployed each of its two goalies in the game with sophomore Katie Lottsfeldt starting and saving seven shots in the first before freshman Claire Hagen finished the game with three second half saves. Facing a busy GVSU attack, Lottsfeldt also secured eight ground balls while Hagen added five.

Defensively, CSP was led by freshman Lexi Stanley with three caused turnovers and a pair of ground balls while freshman Raelyn Korinek led the team on the draw with a pair of draw controls.

The Lakers scored the first five goals of the game with Meggan Lloyd scoring the fourth and fifth of the game opening run on her way to a five goal game, pacing a Laker offense that featured 11 different players scoring goals.

Concordia was out-shot in the game by a 45-19 margin but kept the ball control close with GVSU holding a 26-22 edge in ground balls. The Lakers' first half lead of 13-3 was aided by its ability to stop CSP from clearing the ball as the Golden Bears were 6-15 in the first to GVSU's 7-9. In the second, CSP was able to execute on 5-of-6 clears while limiting GVSU to 3-of-5. The Golden Bears were also able to keep turnovers close, committing just four more (24) than Grand Valley State (20).
