GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Concordia-St. Paul (5-3, 2-2 GLIAC) evened its league record out while extending the club's road winning streak to four games in a 13-8 win at Davenport University (2-5, 0-3 GLIAC) on Thursday afternoon at DU Turf Field.
Concordia continues to defend its perfect 4-0 road record in 2018 next Wednesday, April 4 at Northern Michigan with a 3 p.m. start time in Marquette.
The closely played road game only featured two ties and one lead change and although Concordia had a large lead of five twice in the second half (12-7, 23:00 & 13-8, 29:30), Davenport was within a goal twice as well (7-6, 11:10 & 8-7, 12:14).
After Davenport scored early in the third minute (2:02) to take the game's first lead, senior
Kallie LaValle found sophomore
Maddie Hentges for three consecutive goals in the fourth (3:02), fifth (4:47) and sixth (5:48) minutes of play for a 3-1 lead.
Hentges had a five point performance, scoring four and assisting on another goal and leads the team with 28 points on the year. She's scored at least two points every game and has three games with four or more points. LaValle is tied for second on the team with seven assists and fourth on the squad with 13 points.
Concordia led for most of the first half, although the Panthers tied the game at four in the 19th minute (18:19). In the final 11:41, Concordia held the Panthers scoreless and added goals by freshman
Raelyn Korinek on a free position shot (25:54) and redshirt freshman
Katie Moynihan (28:09) to hold a 6-4 lead at the break.
Korinek registered her fifth hat trick of the year and is second on the team with 19 goals and 21 points. Moynihan had a breakout game with her first multi-point performance as she scored two and assisted on two for four points.
Sophomore
Katie Lottsfeldt handled the net in the first half with a solid effort, allowing just four goals while saving six.
In the second half, a goal by sophomore
Kaci Reid in the sixth minute (5:17) extended the lead to three but the Panthers were able to cut back into the deficit. On two occasions, Davenport trimmed the Concordia lead back to a goal, 7-6 (11:10) and 8-7 (12:14).
In the 16th minute, Concordia netted a pair of goals to start a 4-0 run to claim their largest lead of the game, 12-7 with just seven minutes left. Sophomore
Kailey Heinl scored the first and fourth goals of the run and had a hat trick to give her a team leading 20 goals on the year. She's scored multiple goals in seven of CSP's eight games including five hat trick, and her second and third goals of the game proved pivotal in securing the road win.
Freshman
Claire Hagen played all 30 minutes in the second half, allowing just four goals while saving eight shots. Lottsfeldt was credited with the win in net, improving to 3-3 on the year.
