Jarosz monster day at the plate not enough as CSP swept by SCSU

Jarosz finished with three home runs and eight RBI in the two games

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Liz Jarosz had a career day at the plate for the Concordia-St. Paul softball team (11-22, 3-9 NSIC) finishing with three home runs and eight RBI. However, the Golden Bears would fall short in both games against St. Cloud State (23-13, 7-3 NSIC) falling in game one 5-4 and then dropping game two, 11-7 on a walk off grand slam to conclude their road trip.

GAME 1: St. Cloud State 5, Concordia-St. Paul 4
The Huskies jumped out to a quick 3-0 in the bottom of the first. With no outs SCSU scored their first run on a throwing error by CSP and then added their final two runs off a 2-run home run by Morgan Emmans.

Following a scoreless second inning the Golden Bears would make it a one run game in the third thanks to a Liz Jarosz 2-run blast to right field with two outs.

St. Cloud State would make it a two run game in the bottom of the fourth after a pinch hit RBI single by Alexis Jacobs scoring Jaiden Lund from second.

In the sixth, SCSU would score their final run of the game as Lund would score the second time in the game off a fielding error by CSP making it a 5-2 Husky advantage.

It looked like the Golden Bears were going to go down in order to end the game in the seventh after the first two batters recorded outs.

Justine Schattner would keep their chances alive after a drawing a walk and then Jarosz would give SCSU a bit of a scare as she recorded her second home run of the game to make it a one run game.  St. Cloud State would record the final out of the game in the final at bat to prevent a comeback attempt and take game one by a score of 5-4.

Megan Hedstrom recorded her 11th win of the season for the Huskies. She pitched all seven innings allowing seven hits, four runs while striking out six.

Linzy Heim (6-10) took the loss as she went the distance, allowing six hits, five runs (four earned) and one strikeout.

Linzy Heim (6-9) took the loss for CSP going the distance, allowing five hits, four runs and striking out three.

Jaiden Lund finished 2-3 at the plate for SCSU while scoring two runs. Morgan Emmans went 1-1 with a 2-run home run and drawing a pair of walks.

GAME 2: Minnesota Duluth 4, Concordia-St. Paul 1
After a scoreless first two innings of game two, Liz Jarosz continued her impressive day at the plate smashing a grand slam to left field giving CSP a 4-0 lead. The home run is her ninth of the season which leads the team.

In the home half of the third with runners on the corners and two outs, Abby Bunnell would get SCSU on the board as she scored off a wild pitch to make it a 4-1 game. Then with a runner on second, following the wild pitch, Alyssa Coletto would bring home the runner from second with a RBI single cutting the CSP lead in half.

The Golden Bears would score their final run of the game in the top of the fifth off a Carlie Hart RBI single that scored McKenna Giese from second.

Trailing by four runs and only two innings left to play, SCSU would compile eight runs in the final two innings to complete the comeback and the sweep.

In the sixth, the Huskies would score two runs off a fielder's choice and RBI single by Maya Keating to center field making it a 7-5 game heading into the final inning of play.

Concordia would go down in order in the top of the seventh keeping a comeback attempt alive for St. Cloud State. With one out and runner on first, Morgan Emmans would tie the game with a 2-run home run to left center field.

SCSU would then record a double and single to put runners on the corners still with one out. CSP would then walk the next batter to load the bases but allow a force out at any base. However, with a 1-1 count Alexis Jacobs would end the game with a walk off, pinch hit grand slam giving the Huskies the 11-7 win.
