ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Concordia-St. Paul softball team (10-17, 2-4 NSIC) continues NSIC play this week with a six game road trip as they travel to Southwest Minnesota State (12-10, 3-3 NSIC) on Tuesday, St. Cloud State (20-12, 4-2 NSIC) on Saturday and Minnesota Duluth (22-8, 5-1 NSIC) on Sunday.
Concordia is coming off a 2-4 week falling to #21 Minnesota State and Augustana twice but sweeping Wayne State to begin conference play. The Golden Bears are currently ranked 11th in the NSIC standings, SMSU is ranked eighth, SCSU is ranked sixth and UMD is ranked third.
Haley Schanks had a terrific week for CSP as she led the team in batting average (.471), slugging percentage (1.059), hits (8), home runs (3), and RBI (7), and total bases (18) over the six games. In her last four games she has recorded at least two hits per game.
In addition to Schanks solid performance at the plate,
Sarah Kivisto also performed well at the plate this past week finishing second on the team in batting average (.353), slugging percentage (.824), and RBI (14). She finished third on the team in home runs through the six games with two, both of which came at Minnesota State off two quality pitchers.
CSP crushed nine home runs as a team last week bringing their total for the year up to 18 which moved them into fourth place in the NSIC. Concordia is currently in third with 48 doubles this season.
Individually,
Liz Jarosz currently ranks tied for third in NSIC with six home runs. Schanks ranks 14th in home runs with four.
In the all-time series against the Mustangs, CSP is currently 20-24. In last season's doubleheader in St. Paul, the Golden Bears split with SMSU, falling in game one 11-0 before bouncing back to win game two 5-2.
The Huskies and Golden Bears have met 36 previous times heading into Saturday's doubleheader as Concordia holds a 20-16 advantage. The two schools met twice last year in St. Cloud, with CSP winning game one by scores of 2-0 and SCSU winning game two 5-3. The Golden Bears have actually played fairly well in St. Cloud holding an 11-5 record in the series history.
Against Sunday's opponent, Minnesota Duluth, Concordia has only compiled 21 wins in the 48 game series history. UMD won last year's double header in St. Paul by scores of 6-2 and 21-10, respectively.
