Softball wraps up regular season with six game road trip

CSP travels to Winona State, Minot State and U-Mary to conclude 2017 regular season

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Concordia-St. Paul softball team (15-30, 7-17 NSIC) will wrap up their 2017 regular season with a six game road trip. On Wednesday, April 25 they will travel to Winona State (23-20, 10-8 NSIC), and then on Saturday and Sunday they will travel to northern North Dakota to take on Minot State (20-17, 12-12 NSIC) and U-Mary (18-31, 12-12 NSIC), respectively.

After dropping their double header at Sioux Falls, CSP bounced back with a sweep of MSU Moorhead on Senior Day. Concordia would conclude their home schedule with two tough losses against Northern State to wrap up the weekend.

Sarah Kivisto had a solid week for CSP as she led the team with a .563 batting average and hits with nine. She added one double and one RBI and 10 total bases. Kivisto had three multi-hit games in the last six games including a perfect 4-4 in the game two loss at Sioux Falls.

Liz Jarosz had another impressive week at the plate finishing with a .333 batting average, two home runs, 10 RBI and a .833 slugging percentage. She currently leads the NSIC with 14 home runs. Jarosz is within five home runs of tying the program's single season record of 19 and needs only four more home runs to tie the career-record of 36.

Despite a 1-2 record in the circle, freshman pitcher Samantha Sullivan finished with a 2.03 ERA. She struck out seven batters and held opposing hitters to a .291 batting average. She allowed nine runs and only six were earned. In the tough 1-0 loss to Northern State the one run scored against Sullivan was unearned and she allowed only five hits in the loss with five stikeouts.

In the all-time series against Winona State, CSP is currently 13-26. In last year's double header WSU swept the Golden Bears winning 4-1 and 9-0, respectively. The Warriors have won the last six contests between the two teams. Concordia's last win came in 2012 with an 11-3 victory when WSU was ranked #12 in the country.

The Beavers and Golden Bears have met eight previous times heading into Saturday's doubleheader as Minot State holds a 2-6 advantage. The two schools met twice last year in St. Paul, with Minot winning both games 7-5 and 14-7, respectively. The Beavers have won the last five matchups with CSP's last win coming back in 2014 by a score of 5-4.

Concordia and U-Mary have met 27 times prior to Sunday's matchup. CSP and UM have met 27 times and it has been a fairly even history with Mary holding a 14-13 record. However, the Golden Bears have not beaten the Marauders since 2012 and have lost the eight straight to UM. From 2009-2012 Concordia held a 9-1 record over the three year stretch.
