ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Concordia-St. Paul softball team (13-26, 5-13 NSIC) will travel to Sioux Falls (23-20, 10-8 NSIC) on Tuesday before returning home for their final home games of the season against MSU Moorhead (8-27, 3-15 NSIC) on Saturday and Northern State (24-17-1, 9-8-1 NSIC) on Sunday.
After dropping their double headers against Upper Iowa and Bemidji State, CSP snapped their eight game losing streak with a sweep at Minnesota Crookston. The Golden Bears are currently ranked 13th in the NSIC standings, USF is ranked sixth, MSU Moorhead is ranked 15th and NSU is ranked seventh.
Justine Schattner had a solid week for CSP as she led the team with a .450 batting average and hits with nine. She added a pair of doubles, one home run, one RBI, 14 total bases and a .700 slugging percentage. Schattner is currently on a seven game hitting streak and ranks second on the team in hits with 41, doubles with nine, and slugging percentage at .527.
Liz Jarosz had another impressive week at the plate finishing with a .333 batting average, three home runs, six RBI and a .889 slugging percentage. Currently she ranks tied for first in the NSIC in home runs with 12 and ninth in slugging percentage .658. In conference games alone Jarosz has crushed 10 home runs with leads the NSIC.
In the Golden Bears sweep of Minnesota Crookston, senior pitcher
Linzy Heim won both games. In game one she pitched a complete game allowing six hits no runs and struck out six which tied a season high. In game two, she came in to relief in the fourth inning and allowed only two hits one run, which was unearned, and struck out one, the Golden Bears comeback 6-5 win.
In the all-time series against the Cougars, CSP is currently 2-6. The two teams met earlier this season at the Kelly Laas Invitational in St. Cloud where Sioux Falls defeated the Golden Bears 6-5. USF also won last year's doubleheader in St. Paul 9-3 and 6-0, respectively.
The Dragons and Golden Bears have met 38 previous times heading into Saturday's doubleheader as Concordia holds a 30-8 advantage. The two schools met twice last year in South Dakota, with Moorhead winning game one by scores of 3-1 and CSP winning game two 12-2. The Golden Bears have won 21 of the last 24 meetings.
Concordia has played well against Northern State holding a 32-6 series record. However, NSU has won the last four meetings between the two teams. Last season, NSU and CSP met in Aberdeen, South Dakota with the Wolves winning game one 10-4 and game two 8-0. When the series' first began, the Golden Bears won the first 27 meetings.
