Golden Bears head south for Spring games

CSP will play 12 games over a seven day span

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Concordia-St. Paul softball team (2-8) is heading south this weekend as they travel to Clermont, Florida to play 12 games starting on Sunday, March 12th, and ending on Saturday, March 18th.
 
CSP opens up action with #22 Wayne State (Mich.) at 7 a.m. and California (Pa.) at 5 p.m. on Sunday. The Golden Bears also face St. Michael's (Vt.) and Seton Hill (Pa.) on Monday, Auburn Montgomery (Ala.) and #19 Indianapolis on Tuesday, Hillsdale (Mich.) and Clarion (Pa.) on Thursday, Ohio Dominican and St. Michael's (Vt.) for a second time on Friday, and Pace University and a second meeting with Hillsdale (Mich.) on Saturday.

The Golden Bears will face St. Michael's (Vt.), Auburn Montgomery (Ala.), Indianapolis, Ohio Dominican and Pace University for the first time in program history. All-time, CSP is 0-2 vs Wayne State (Mich.), 2-1 against California (Pa.), 1-0 vs Seton Hill (Pa.) and Clarion (Pa.), and 0-1 vs Hillsdale (Mich.).
 
Concordia is coming off a two week break from action following a six game stint at the UAM 8 State Classic in Arkansas back on Feb. 17-19. The Golden Bears dropper their first five games of the tournament before closing the trip with a 3-2 win over Ouachita Baptist (Ark.).

Nicole Thompson appeared in five games at the 8 State Classic and went a combined 5-16 (.313) at the plate with two RBI, one double and three runs scored. Liz Jarosz recorded her first home run of the season against Rogers State (Okla.).

Freshman pitcher Samantha Sullivan recorded her first collegiate win against Ouachita Baptist (Ark.). Sullivan struck out a career-high six batters in the 3-2 win and only allowed six hits.
 
On the season, several Golden Bears have gotten off to a strong start at the plate. Justine Schattner paces the group with a .464 average with 13 hits, four runs and a team-leading 13 RBI to go along with two homeruns. Nicole Thompson has had nearly as much success as she has .433 average with 13 hits, eight runs and three RBI. Hannah Carlson and Carlie Hart each enter the weekend with a .360 average, nine hits and five RBI.

Schattner's 13 RBI currently ranks second in the NSIC, her four doubles ranks tied for fourth and her .826 slugging percentage ranks ninth.
 
Following the trip to Florida, Concordia will play their NSIC opener on March 28th at Minnesota State.
