CLERMONT, Fla. – The Concordia Golden Bears softball team (2-10) only managed to compile two hits against California (Pa.) (5-4) as they fell to the Vulcans 10-0 in five innings to conclude day one of their Florida trip.
California (Pa.) 10, Concordia-St. Paul 0 (5 innings)
California exploded for seven runs over the first three innings to put the game out of reach. After a scoreless first inning the Vulcans posted six runs in the top of the second and one in the third to jump out to an early 7-0 lead.
In the home half of the first
Carlie Hart led off with a double and would eventually advance to third but CSP could not drive her home.
In the top of the second the Golden Bears retired the first two batters, but after a walk and back-to-back errors the Vulcans would load the bases. Emily Price would then draw the second walk of the inning brining in the first run of the game.
The following at bat, Paige Wilson would rip a 2 RBI single building the Cal lead to 3-0. The Vulcans would continue to add to their as Jacquelyn Fowler would belt a 3-run homer at the next at bat giving CU a 6-0 lead. California would reload the bases after a single and two more errors but Concordia would finally record the final out of the inning before any more damage could be done.
Haley Schanks would record the Golden Bears final hit of the game in bottom of the second with a leadoff single. From there CSP would go down one, two, three in the final three innings of the game.
The Vulcans would add their seventh run of the game in top of third off a solo home run by Taylor Robblee.
In the top of the fifth Fowler would smash her second 3-run home run of the game again with two outs in the inning building the Cal lead to the final score of 10-0.
California starter Taylor Robblee (2-2) took the win, striking out eight and only allowing two hits.
Linzy Heim (1-5) took to the tough loss for CSP as she went three innings, allowing five hits and seven runs only one of which was earned.
Hart and Schanks recorded the only two hits for Concordia as they went 1-2 and 1-1 at the plate, respectively.
Three different players recorded two or more hits for the Vulcans led by Paige Wilson who went 3-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Hailey Wilson and Jacquelyn Fowler each went 2-3 and Fowler finished the game with six RBI.
Concordia will be back in action tomorrow night as they play St. Michael's (Vt.) at 5 pm and Seton Hill (Pa.) at 7:30 pm
