Bears embark on final road trip of 2017 at Augustana

After three straight narrow road losses, Bears look to capture first road win of 2017

11.2.17

ST. PAUL, Minn. - This Saturday, Concordia-St. Paul (1-8 NSIC, 0-5 South) heads to Sioux Falls, South Dakota for its final road game of 2017 against Augustana (3-6 NSIC, 1-4 South) at Kirkeby-Over Stadium for a 1 p.m. kickoff.

The game looks to have similar weather conditions as last week's game at Wayne State with temperatures in the low 50's but partly cloudy skies and slightly more wind at 10-15 mph. Saturday evening has a 60 percent chance of rain, but the early part of the day is expected to be dry.

The game is Concordia's road finale of 2017 and will be Augustana's senior day in its final home game. Next week, CSP will host SMSU at 1 p.m. for senior day while Augustana heads to Winona State to close out the season.

THE MATCHUP
The Golden Bears enter Saturday's game just three plays away from playing for a .500 record with a three game road winning streak. However, the Bears fell 21-20 at MSU Moorhead in week four, 34-29 at Upper Iowa in week six and 27-23 at Wayne State in week nine. Instead of a three game road winning streak and a 4-5 record, the Bears enter on an eight game losing streak with a 1-8 overall record. Augustana counters with a slump of its own, losing five of the last six games and each of the last two, entering play 3-6 overall and 1-4 in the NSIC South.

CSP had its chances to pull out comeback wins in each of the contests with strong red zone opportunities. In the WSC game, the offense converted its fourth quarter go-ahead red zone try when senior quarterback Ron Johnson completed a 5-yard touchdown to senior wide receiver Deceon Schumann for a 23-20 lead over the Wildcats. Wayne State responded with a game-winning drive, avoiding a fourth and long on the first series with a defensive holding penalty to keep the drive alive before executing a 3rd and 14 from the 15 yard line for a touchdown with 23 seconds to play.
