ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Concordia-St. Paul softball team (12-30, 6-16 NSIC) closes out their home schedule on Wednesday as they host Sioux Falls (29-16, 13-9 NSIC) at Carlander Field before they travel to Augustana (31-14, 18-5 NSIC) and Wayne State (25-20, 19-5 NSIC) over the weekend to finish off the regular season.
The Golden Bears will look to end their home slate on a high note after a tough weekend in which CSP held late leads in three of the four games before seeing their opponents come from behind.
A major highlight from the weekend was Senior Day on Sunday. Concordia honored their four seniors, including
Jamie Fleischhacker,
Kelly McKenzie,
Teona Zepeda and
Frankie Munkwitz. The four of them were honored at a presentation between the two games against Minot State. As a part of the brief ceremony, head coach
Bob Bartel unveiled the
Frankie Munkwitz Award. The
Frankie Munkwitz Award was established in 2016 to recognize a softball student-athlete who exemplifies the following characteristics: dedication, leadership, work ethic, perseverance and being a great teammate. The award was created in honor of Frankie's contributions to the Golden Bear softball program.
On the field,
Liz Jarosz had a big weekend as she collected eight hits in 15 at-bats (.533 average) while driving in a team-best five runs.
Justine Schattner wasn't far behind as she hit .429 with six hits to go along with two walks as she scored twice and drove in two.
Heading into Wednesday, the Golden Bears and the Cougars have met just five times in the all-time series. USF claimed three of the first four meetings, all coming in NSIC regular season play, before CSP claimed a 7-5 win in the NSIC Tournament back in 2014.
Concordia has had a tough time with Saturday's opponent as they have claimed just five wins in 23 contests. The Vikings have dominated in recent years with wins in 12 in a row in the series dating back to 2010.
It has been an even series with Wayne State as the two teams have won 19 of the 38 meetings. After a strong stretch in which Concordia has won six in a row, the Wildcats have won the last three to pull back even.
