ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Concordia-St. Paul softball team (4-6) heads back to St. Cloud this weekend as they take on Minot State and Bemidji State on Saturday morning before taking on Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston on Sunday morning in non-conference action at the Husky Dome.
It will be the second trip to the Husky Dome in as many weekends for Concordia after the team finished 3-2 in the Kelly Laas Memorial Tournament against five MIAA opponents.
The Golden Bears picked up an 11-8 win over Fort Hays State and a 6-2 win over Central Missouri on Thursday night to open play. CSP followed it up with a 10-4 loss to Nebraska Kearney Friday morning before they split on Saturday night with an 11-4 win over Emporia State and a 4-1 loss to Missouri Western State.
Liz Jarosz led the way offensively over the weekend as she hit .556 (10-18) with three doubles and six RBI in the five games. The first baseman added two more runs scored and slugged .722 as she hit safely in all five games. The strong showing moved her season slash line to .406/.486/.563 in the early going.
This weekend, the Golden Bears will get a bit of an NSIC preview this weekend as they take on three NSIC foes in advance of the conference season.
Saturday morning's matchup marks just the sixth meeting between Concordia and Minot State, with all five previous meetings coming in the last two years, as CSP has gone 2-3. Last year in Minot, the Beavers picked up the sweep with a 5-0 win and a 6-2 win.
The history with Bemidji State runs a bit deeper heading into the weekend as the two schools have met 34 previous times, with the Golden Bears claiming 31 wins in those contests. Concordia enters the pair of contests riding a seven-game winning streak over BSU, with the last win for the Beavers coming back in 2012. In St. Paul last season, CSP won a pair of high-scoring games as they picked up the sweep with 13-12 and 12-6 wins.
Concordia closes out the weekend with their 33
rd meeting with Minnesota Crookston as CSP has gone 31-1 in the previous 32 matchups. The only win for UMC in the series came back in 2002 as the Golden Bears have won the last 28 in a row. Concordia picked up the sweep in St. Paul last year with 11-10 and 7-0 victories.
