Football prepared for home opener on Saturday against MSU Moorhead

Golden Bears and Dragons will kickoff at noon at Sea Foam Stadium

ST. PAUL, Minn. - This Saturday at noon, Concordia-St. Paul (0-1) kicks off its home opener against MSU Moorhead (1-0) at Sea Foam Stadium.

The Golden Bears are 10-6 in home openers since joining the Division II and NSIC ranks in 1999, are 3-3 in Sea Foam Stadium home openers and 2-2 in home openers under fifth year head coach Ryan Williams. The Golden Bears are also 9-1 all-time against MSU Moorhead in a series that began in 2001. Concordia has won four straight overall in the series and is also 4-0 at home against the Dragons.

MSU Moorhead is one of just two NSIC programs that has yet to play at Sea Foam Stadium, joining Concordia's week 10 home opponent, Southwest Minnesota State. The last time the Golden Bears hosted the Dragons was in 2008, the final year of Griffin Stadium. The last time the two teams played was in 2013 in Moorhead, with Zach Moore blocking a 23-yard field goal as time expired to preserve a 36-34 win.

Concordia is coming off of a 28-10 loss in the season opener at St. Cloud State last Thursday despite out-gaining the Huskies in total offense, first downs and time of possession. SCSU was able to out-execute Concordia in third down conversions, turnovers and was a perfect 4-4 in the red zone.

MSU Moorhead picked up a 42-17 win over Winona State in their home opener in front of a large crowd at renovated Nemzek Stadium (Scheels Field). Despite the large margin of victory, the Dragons were actually out-gained by WSU as MSUM surrendered 488 yards of total offense to the Warriors including 349 through the air.
