Softball returns home for weekend series

CU hosts MSUM on Friday and NSU on Saturday

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Concordia-St. Paul softball team (13-24, 7-7 NSIC) returns home this weekend as they host MSU Moorhead (11-13, 1-9 NSIC) on Friday and Northern State (20-15, 7-5 NSIC) on Saturday at Carlander Field. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. on Friday and 12 p.m. on Saturday.

Concordia will look to get back in the win column after seeing the Warriors of Winona State snap their four-game winning streak on Wednesday. The Golden Bears were held to just six hits and one run after scoring 43 runs in the previous four games.

The Golden Bears have owned the series against the Dragons over the past several years as they have won 13 out of the last 14 meetings. Overall, Concordia holds a 27-7 record against MSU Moorhead with a 7-2 record at home. Last season, the Dragons snapped a 12 game skid in the series with a 1-0 win in game one before CU took the second game 2-1.

The Dragons come into the weekend riding a five-game losing streak after claiming their first NSIC win of the year against Minnesota Duluth. MSU Moorhead kicks off a busy weekend today as they play host to U-Mary before traveling to St. Paul tomorrow and Mankato on Saturday.

Concordia has been nearly perfect in 34 meetings with Northern State as they have gone 32-2 against the Wolves. After CU won the first 27 meetings, NSU finally broke through with a 6-1 win in 2011. The Wolves also claimed game two of a doubleheader in St. Paul two years ago, but the Golden Bears claimed a sweep in Aberdeen last year to regain control in the series.

The Wolves snapped a four-game skid on Wednesday with a mid-week sweep of Minot State at home. They will look to extend their winning streak on Friday at Minnesota State before heading to Concordia on Saturday.
