ST. PAUL, Minn. - The #3 Concordia-St. Paul volleyball team (12-3, 6-1 NSIC) will look to continue their six-game winning streak this weekend as they host U-Mary (8-8, 3-4 NSIC) on Friday and Minot State (3-11, 0-7 NSIC) on Saturday at the Gangelhoff Center.
THE MATCHUPS... The Golden Bears are meeting the Marauders for the 13th time ever with Concordia holding a perfect 12-0 record. The only time that U-Mary has taken a set came back in 2007 as they pushed CSP to five sets before the Golden Bears closed out the win. Last season, Concordia swept both meetings between the two schools.
In last year's meeting in St. Paul, the Golden Bears were dominant in all aspects of the game as they hit an impressive .388 as a team while limiting the Marauders to just a .011 hitting percentage in the match.
Anna Schlaak collected a double-double as she led CSP in both kills and digs with 14 and 11, respectively. She was extremely efficient with a .565 hitting percentage. Not to be outdone,
Riley Hanson was even more efficient as she hit .692 with 10 kills on just 13 attempts.
Saturday's match between Concordia and Minot State is the fifth meeting in the all-time series, with CSP winning all four previous matchups. All four meetings have come since the Beavers joined the NSIC, including two last season.
Back on Halloween last year, the Golden Bears cruised past Minot State in St. Paul. It was a quiet night offensively as the team needed just 43 kills to pick up the win. Concordia hit .287 as a team while the Beavers were held to just a .102 mark. Concordia collected six aces, led by
Mariya Sampson's three, and 11.0 blocks, led by
Emma Lange's six.
Riley Hanson put together yet another efficient night as she hit .476 on her way to a team-high 13 kills to go along with her five blocks. She was joined in double figures in kills by
Anna Schlaak who chipped in 11 and fell just a dig short of a double-double.
LAST TIME OUT... The third-ranked Concordia-St. Paul volleyball team knocked off top-ranked Minnesota Duluth in four sets on Tuesday night. The Golden Bears improved to 11-0 all-time against teams ranked #1 in the country.
The Golden Bear attack remained red hot as they hit over .300 for the fourth time in five matches with a mark of .318. The defense was equally impressive as they held their opponent below .200 for the third time in four matches as well as CSP held UMD to .184 hitting. The trio of
Anna Schlaak,
Emma Lange and
Mariya Sampson led the way offensively for Concordia as they all finished in double figures in kills in the match. Schlaak finished just a dig short of a double-double with a team-high 16 kills to go along with nine digs as she hit .324 in the win. Lange picked up 11 kills with an impressive .450 hitting percentage while Sampson chipped in 10 kills.
NCAA STATISTICAL LEADERS... With the team entering the week riding high, several players have worked their way up the ranks statistically on the national level.
Heather Schiller went into Tuesday night's match ranking second in the nation with 1.5 blocks per set while
Kasey Williams registered in at third in assists per set at 12.27. As a team, CSP ranks sixth in kills per set (14.33), 13th in blocks per set (2.52) and 13th in hitting percentage (.257) as well.
