ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Concordia University volleyball team (9-2, 2-1 NSIC) will look to win their third straight as they hit the road to face the Upper Iowa Peacocks (7-4, 2-1 NSIC) on Tuesday night. Concordia holds a perfect 13-0 record against UIU all-time.
Concordia responded with a 2-0 weekend against #21 Northern State and MSU Moorhead after dropping their NSIC opener to Minnesota State last Tuesday.
After falling behind 1-0 and 2-1 in the match on Friday, Concordia fought back to grab their 12th consecutive NSIC home opening win under head coach
Brady Starkey. Both teams fought hard defensively as each team was forced into 25 attack errors while the Golden Bears collected seven total blocks and the Wolves collected six. CU out-hit NSU by a slight margin at .255 to .233 with Concordia dominating the final two sets.
The Golden Bear offense was rolling Saturday as they hit .394 as a team and held the Dragons to just .146. CU also won the serving battle with eight aces while not allowing any defensively.
Riley Hanson was excellent all weekend with 31 kills compared to just four errors to hit an extremely efficient .538 in the two matches. She had at least 15 kills and three blocks in each match.
Concordia has dominated the all-time series with the Peacocks as they have won all 13 meetings including going 6-0 in Fayette. The only time UIU has taken a set from the Golden Bears came in four set win for CU back on September 19, 2008. Last season, CU rolled to a sweep by scores of 25-10, 25-12 and 25-13.
Riley Hanson had an efficient nine kills on just 12 attempts to finish with a .667 hitting percentage and
Taylor Dordan chipped in 11 digs in the sweep. UIU was led by Chelsea Berry's seven kills.
Upper Iowa bounced back with a pair of weekend sweeps of U-Mary and Minot State at home after losing their NSIC opener to Winona State in four sets. Jennifer Mundt had a solid week for the Peacocks with 38 kills (3.8 per set) along with eight digs and seven blocks while Hailey Brown added 57 assists, 34 digs and 23 kills.
Concordia is back on the road this weekend as they head to North Dakota this weekend as they take on U-Mary and Minot State.
