SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -
The Concordia University softball team (18-33) dropped their first game of the NSIC Tournament 7-3 to the University of Mary (31-20) on Thursday afternoon. The Golden Bears will now play the loser of Wayne State and Sioux Falls at 4 p.m.

The Golden Bears were done in by the long ball as five of U-Mary's seven runs were brought home by three homers. Concordia hit a pair of home runs themselves but it wasn't enough as the Marauders advance in the winner's bracket to take on Winona State at 2 p.m.

The Golden Bears opened the scoring in the first inning as Teona Zepeda walked, stole second and came home on a two-out RBI single for Liz Jarosz.

That lead wouldn't last long as U-Mary scored in the second, third, fourth and fifth to built a 7-1 lead.

Taylor Mendez delivered the go-ahead blow with a two-run shot in the second. Julissa Perales added two more with her 10th home run of the season in the third and Demaree Rodriguez drove in another with a single to push the lead to 5-1. An Erin Keen solo home run in the fourth and  Rodriguez picked up another RBI single in the fifth to break it open at 7-1.

Bekah Roth and Liz Jarosz did provide a bright spot in the top of the sixth with back-to-back home runs to open the inning.

Cherlyn Trujillo (16-9) shut the door from that point, not allowing another hit as she picked up the complete game win.

Stephanie Kappes (9-20) took the loss for CU as she allowed six runs on nine hits and three strikeouts in four innings of work.

Linzy Heim pitched two innings in relief with a pair of strikeouts, allowing one run.

Jarosz finished the game 2-3 with a homer and a steal to lead the Golden Bear offense.

Alicia Meiser, Emily Shinn and Elena Koncar each had a hit for CU as well.

Concordia will now need to work their way back through the loser's bracket in the tournament. The winner of the Concordia and Wayne State/Sioux Falls game played today at 4 p.m. will play at 10 a.m. on Friday morning against the loser of Minnesota State and Minot State.
