Baseball concludes spring trip with 7-1 win over VCSU

TUCSON, Ariz. - Concordia-St. Paul (8-2) wrapped up its spring trip with a 7-1 win over Valley City State (6-10) on Sunday afternoon at Kino Sports Complex at the Tucson Invitational.

Sophomore left hander Zach Rengel picked up the win, working 5.0 innings as he allowed a run on four hits with three strikeouts and three walks. He improves to 2-0 in two starts.

Freshman right hander Hunter Lindstrom dominated for 4.0 no-hit innings in relief to pick up his first career save and now has a win and a save in his only two college relief appearances. Lindstrom struck out one and didn't issue a walk in his term. In 8.0 shutout innings on the year, Lindstrom has allowed just two hits and a walk. He threw only 44 pitches today in relief.

VCSU took the game's first lead with a run in the bottom of the third inning.

Concordia tied the game at 1-1 with a run in the top of the fifth and added three more in the top of the sixth as Lindstrom entered the game for Rengel with a 4-1 lead.

The Golden Bears gave Lindstrom three insurance runs in the top of the ninth.

Junior Kyle Dalton continued his strong start by going 3-4 to extend his hitting streak to 21 games. He is hitting .561 through 10 games (.561).

Sophomore Eric Fasnacht also extended his hitting streak to 10 games by going 1-4 and is hitting .571 (20-35) through 10 games.

Outfielders Joe Muench and Trevon Bargfrede continued their recent hot streaks as each posted 2-hit games. Muench went 2-5 and is now hitting .345 (10-29) while Bargfrede had his second straight multi-hit game, going 2-4 to raise his average to .231 (6-26) with five hits in the last two games.

Concordia is scheduled to open the season at home at Barnes Field next Saturday and Sunday against U-Mary (N.D.), weather and field conditions permitting. Continue to check cugoldenbears.com/baseball for updated schedule announcements as information is available.
