Golden Bears stay hot in 20-3 win over Bemidji State

TUCSON, Ariz. - Concordia-St. Paul (7-2) continued its strong spring trip by defeating Bemidji State (3-7) 20-3 on Saturday morning at Kino Sports Complex in the Tucson Invitational. The 9-inning contest ended after 7-innings due to the scoring margin.

In Concordia's fifth game of the year against Dordt, the offense compiled a school record 19 walks. Today, the Golden Bears produced a school record with 26 hits including five for extra bases.

Concordia's offense was paced by the 5-hit effort from junior Kyle Dalton, who extends his hitting streak to 20 games dating back to last season. The second hitter in the lineup, Dalton scored four times, drove in a pair and had a pair doubles and is now hitting .541.

Also hitting safely in every game this season is sophomore Eric Fasnacht, as his 3-5 performance actually lowered his season batting average slightly to .613. He drove in a pair of runs, doubled and walked.

The run production came from sophomore Ryan Poppitz, who brought home five runs and now has 17 RBI in nine games this season. Poppitz slugged his second triple of the year as he went 2-5.

Senior Brooks Beilke and redshirt freshman Joe Muench each went 4-6 at the plate as well, with Beilke scoring and driving in three runs while Muench scored twice and knocked in four.

Junior Trevon Bargfrede had his breakout game, going 3-4 with three runs and a double out of the ninth spot in the lineup as Concordia had five players with three or more hits and six with multi-hit games.

Senior right handed pitcher Adam Kramer went the distance for his second win in as many starts on the year. He allowed three runs on 10 hits and two walks to the Beavers.

The Golden Bears will conclude their spring trip tomorrow with a 9 a.m. game against Valley City State at Kino Sports Complex field seven.
