Golden Bears erase two-goal deficit in 3-2 win over MSUM

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Concordia University soccer team (3-5-1, 3-3-1 NSIC) overcame a 2-0 deficit to claim a 3-2 win over MSU Moorhead (2-7, 1-6 NSIC) on Sunday afternoon at Sea Foam Stadium. Logan Daulton scored her first career goal and Taryn MacMillan added her second two-goal game of the season for the Golden Bears.

The game was up and down in the first half with 17 combined shots (11 for CU and six for MSUM) and three goals scored. The Golden Bears put pressure on early and had several chances but the game remained scoreless until Annika Greaney found herself wide open in front of the net and gave the Dragons a 1-0 lead in 24th minute. MSU Moorhead added a second goal in the 38th minute as Erin Nyberg retrieved her own rebound following a penalty kick and put it home to give MSUM a 2-0 advantage.

The Golden Bears were resilient and kept the pressure on in the offensive zone. That effort finally paid off in the 40th minute as Logan Daulton headed in a corner from Emily Ecklund to cut the Dragon lead in half. Despite the pressure, Concordia still entered the break trailing.

The Golden Bears turned up the heat even more out of the half and were rewarded as Taryn MacMillan evened the score on a loose ball in front of the net off a cross in which she buried up high over the keeper in the 56th minute.

MacMillan didn't wait long before providing an encore as she buried a penalty kick on a hard, low shot in the 61st minute to give the Golden Bears the lead. The junior had previously scored her first two goals for CU in a win over Sioux Falls and now leads the team with four goals on the season.

The flurry of goals did nothing to stop the Concordia offense from attacking as they continued to create chances throughout the rest of the game. The team fired a total of 27 shots (nine on goal) in the game while allowing only nine (seven on goal).

Emma Gartner picked up her third win in net for CU as she made five saves. She, along with the Golden Bears, are now 2-1-1 at home in four matches.

Concordia finishes off their five game homestand this Thursday as they host Presentation (S.D.) in a non-conference contest.
