Lindsay's OT goal lifts CU to first ever win in Winona

WINONA, Minn. – The Concordia University soccer team (5-10-2, 4-8-2 NSIC) pulled off a dramatic 3-2 comeback win in overtime over Winona State (13-3-1, 10-3-1 NSIC) on Friday night. Chelsie Lindsay scored the game-winner in the 97th minute to give the Golden Bears their first ever win in Winona.

After failing to produce a win in ten matches at WSU and trailing on two different occasions, the Golden Bears showed a lot of resilience as they battled back to claim the victory.

Chelsie Lindsay picked an opportune time to score her first career goal for Concordia as she beat the keeper in the first minute to end the streak in Winona and lift the Golden Bears past the Warriors. She also added an assist on Landry's goal that tied the game at one to finish with three points on the night.

Erica Landry not only scored her first goal of the year but also added an assist on Pieper's goal to give her a career-high three points as well.

Sarah Pieper continued her aggressive play and was rewarded with her second goal of the year and fourth of her career.

Emma Gartner got her fourth win in net for Concordia with seven saves including a few crucial ones down the stretch.

The first half was eventful despite no goals being scored with a combined 16 shots with seven shots on goal. The Warriors held the edge in shots at 10-6 while the Golden Bears were more efficient with their shots as they put four on net compared to three for WSU.

Chelsie Lindsay was the first to challenge Winona State keeper Rachel Oleson as she fired a header on net nearly three and a half minutes in. Alahna Anderson and Coco Piche added shots as Concordia controlled play and held the better chances in the early stages of the half.

The Warriors bounced back and forced Gartner to work as she turned away three shots in a three minute span. Sarah Pieper added a shot for CU with about 11 minutes to go in the half as it was also stopped.

Winona State added one of the best opportunities late in the half as Alaina Kne fired a shot off the post. In the end, both teams were unable to bury any of their chances as it remained scoreless at the break.

The Warriors carried over the momentum into the second half and turned it into a goal in the 56th minute as Taylor Zehren took a feed from Kenzie Rose and Kati Baker and snuck it past Gartner to make it 1-0. CU appeared sunk until Landry linked up with Kaitlyn Halvorson and Lindsay to even the score late in the 82nd minute.

It took less than two minutes for Winona State to regain the lead as Hannah Burt beat Gartner to push the lead back in favor of WSU in the 83rd minute. Concordia wouldn't give up as Pieper tied it back up at two in the 86th minute from Landry as the Golden Bears stunned WSU to force overtime. Meg Riebau very nearly put the Warriors back on top with what would have been the fourth goal in five minutes as she hit the crossbar just seconds after Pieper's goal.

WSU got the first chance in overtime in the 95th minute as Gartner made her seventh and final save of the evening but the Golden Bears certainly got the last as Lindsay peppered two shots on Oleson with the second crossing the goal line to give Concordia the 3-2 win.

The Golden Bears will look to build off the impressive win this Sunday in their season finale against Upper Iowa for Senior Day. The game is set to begin at 1 p.m.
