Golden Bears fall to Peacocks 4-1 on Senior Day

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Concordia University soccer team (5-11-2, 4-9-2 NSIC) closed out their season with a 4-1 loss to Upper Iowa (10-6-1, 10-4-1 NSIC) on Sunday afternoon. The Golden Bears honored seniors Emily Ecklund, Sam McBain and Sarah Pieper in their final game at Sea Foam Stadium for Senior Day.

The Peacocks exploded for four goals in the final 48 minutes of the game as they pulled away from Concordia on a windy afternoon. The Golden Bears cut the UIU lead in half at 2-1 and appeared poised to make a game of it but Upper Iowa chipped in two insurance goals late to put it away.

McKenzie Buck was a strong threat for the Golden Bears as she scored the team's only goal on two shots on goal while she created several other chances throughout the game.

Upper Iowa's offense was carried by the efforts of Madie Edwards and Aimee Wronski as Edwards had a hand in each goal with two goals and two assists while Wronski contributed a goal and two assists.

The first half was tilted a bit in UIU's favor as the Peacocks had nine shots with four on goal while the Golden Bears had just four shots with two on goal. Aimee Wronski nearly opened the scoring in the 4th minute as she fired a hard shot off the crossbar. Buck put the first shot on net for Concordia in the 31st minute while Coco Piche added another in the 37th minute.

The score remained tied at 0-0 until Morgan Springborn scored her fourth goal of the season as she beat Emma Gartner from eight yards out.

Wronski made it 2-0 just after the half as she fired a beautiful shot from nearly 30 yards out that snuck perfectly over Gartners's head and into the back of the net.

After nearly 20 minutes of scoreless action, Buck took a nice feed from Chelsie Lindsay about 10 yards out and beat the keeper to the lower left corner to bring it back to a one-goal game.

The Golden Bears were unable to get the equalizer before Upper Iowa added a pair of insurance goals, one in the 82nd minute and one in the 87th minute to put it away for the Peacocks.

Gartner made five saves while Kaitlyn Emanuel made four in the win for UIU.
