MINOT, N.D. – The Concordia University soccer team (4-7-1, 3-5-1 NSIC) closed out the weekend with a 3-0 loss to Minot State (5-5-2, 4-4-1 NSIC) on Sunday afternoon. Three different Beavers scored in the win.
Concordia's streak of attempting more shots than their opponent reached seven as they fired 13 shots compared to 10 for Minot State. The Beavers did come out on the favorable end of shots on goal, though, as they put five on goal while CU had three on goal.
"It was an uncharacteristically flat performance for us, but credit to Minot for a good performance today," said head coach
Steve Bellis about the match.
The Golden Bears started off the game with a flurry of shots in the early minutes but couldn't convert. Minot turned it around midway through the half and broke the tie in the 26
th minute on Kristin Long's third goal of the season as she snuck behind the CU defense. Concordia fought to tie it up before the half but went into the break trailing 1-0.
The score remained 1-0 for much of the second half until Emilie Rebelo put a free kick from 20 yards out past keeper
Emma Gartner into the back of the net to make it 2-0. Jamie Ayala added an insurance goal to put it away in the 85
th minute as she picked up her own rebound and put it in.
Jessica Bianchi led the Golden Bears in shots again with four while
Shannon Wynne led the way with two shots on goal.
Celene Johnson and Alexis Benno split the shutout in net for the Beavers.
Concordia returns to Sea Foam Stadium with Augustana and Wayne State coming to town next weekend.
