FAYETTE, Iowa - Concordia-St. Paul (5-12, 2-11 NSIC) held Upper Iowa (8-11, 6-7 NSIC) to 32.9% (24-73) shooting en route to an 81-69 road victory on Friday night at Dorman Gym. With the strong defense, Concordia also controlled the glass 48-39.
The win snaps a five game losing streak overall and a six game road losing streak dating back to last season. It also moves head coach Kelly Boe into sole possession of second on Concordia's all-time wins list with 105 in his eighth season.
The Golden Bears were led by 21 points and nine rebounds from senior
Cordell Smith. He was 8-13 from the floor and knocked down four three-pointers in six attempts. Junior
Travon Mitchell added 18 points off the bench including 7-8 free throw shooting. Junior
Terez VanPelt was also strong from the stripe, converting 10-12 for 17 points and four assists.

Keith Crockett joined Smith with nine rebounds, as the combo-guard also scored six points, had five assists, two blocks and a steal.
Concordia led nearly wire-to-wire as the game featured one tie and two lead changes in the first three-plus minutes. The Golden Bears led for 35:55 of play, or nearly 90-percent of the contest.
The strong defense was key, but Concordia also executed from the floor converting 44.8% (26-58) from the floor, 42.9% (6-14) from three and 74.2% (23-31) from the line.
The foul shooting was a major factor, especially late with the lead, as Concordia out-scored Upper Iowa 23-11 at the line.
Grant Lang led the Peacocks with 16 points while Joey Woods had 14.
The Golden Bears head to Winona State (16-4, 11-2 NSIC) for a 6 p.m. tip tomorrow at McCown Gym. The Warriors completed the season sweep of Minnesota State tonight with a 73-57 win over the Mavericks.
