ST. PAUL, Minn. - Concordia-St. Paul (4-12, 1-11 NSIC) dropped a Northern Sun contest 89-68 to Augustana (11-7, 8-4 NSIC) on Saturday night at Gangelhoff Center. The visiting Vikings out-rebounded Concordia 49-23 including 19-7 on the offensive glass to put away the home team.
Concordia was led by junior
Terez VanPelt with a game-high 26 points on 9-15 shooting. He also knocked down four three-pointers in seven attempts and made 4-5 at the foul line.
The Vikings were led by the strong inside presence from Daniel Jansen with 23 points on 10-11 shooting as he made his first 10 shots of the game while Casey Schilling had 21 points and a game-high 16 rebounds while knocking down three three-pointers from the outside.
Augustana scored the first seven points of the game and led wire-to-wire. A Jansen jumper gave Augustana a 24-13 lead with 9:02 to play in the first half and the margin stayed in double-digits the rest of the way as Augie led by as many as 37 early in the second half.
Concordia faced a 22-13 margin in second chance scoring and were out-scored by nine points at the foul line (23-14). While the rebounded differential was substantial, the Vikings also converted 10 three-pointers from the perimeter while shooting 45.5% from long range.
Concordia countered with eight three-pointers as seniors
Cordell Smith and
Clay Olstad each made a pair to go with VanPelt's four.
Smith finished with 13 points and four rebounds to join VanPelt as Concordia's two players in double-figures.
The Golden Bears return to the road next weekend at Upper Iowa on Friday and at #16 Winona State on Saturday.
