Concordia soccer plays well, falls to CSU-Pueblo 1-0

PUEBLO, Colo. – The Concordia University Golden Bears women's soccer team (0-2) played well for a second straight match but came out on the losing end again in a 1-0 loss to the CSU-Pueblo Thunderwolves (2-0) Sunday afternoon.

Concordia dominated play for much of the match, outshooting the Thunderwolves 9-6 in the first half.  But it was CSU-Pueblo that was able to capitalize on an opportunity when Alicia Irwin put an Amanda Jorgensen pass from inside the box in the net to give the Thunderwolves a 1-0 advantage.

Sophomore goalkeeper Emma Gartner (Springdale, Ark.) rebounded to make three more saves in the first half to hold the score at 1-0.  Concordia was only able to get three of their nine shots on net in the first 45 minutes.

In the second half the Golden Bears put even more pressure on CSU-Pueblo in the second half and controlled play for long periods of time.  Concordia was able to get some good chances, putting five shots on net but were shut down by goalie Savannah Thompson.

Chloe Moore (Lakeville, Minn. ) and Alahna Anderson (White Bear Lake, Minn.) each had three shots, two on goal for the Golden Bears attack.

Concordia was again unable to find a goal scorer but made a good showing in their two matches in Colorado against solid competition.  They return home for their conference home opener on Thursday against Minnesota State at 7:00 p.m.
