Concordia shuts out Minnesota Crookston 1-0

CROOKSTON, Minn. – The Concordia University soccer team (2-3, 1-1 NSIC) evened their conference record on Saturday afternoon with a 1-0 win over the Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagles (2-3, 0-2 NSIC) in Crookston.  The Golden Bears used an early Alahna Anderson (White Bear Lake, Minn.) goal as the deciding goal in their first shutout of the year.

Anderson got the Golden Bears on the board at the 9:21 mark in the first half on her first tally of her career from Liz Darkow (Neenah, Wis.)   The assist was Darkow's first point as a Golden Bear in her first career start.  Concordia's defense took it from there, shutting the door on a potential Golden Eagle comeback.  UMC couldn't muster a shot on net in the first half as the Golden Bears outshot the Golden Eagles 8-1 overall.

In the second half, keeper Emma Gartner (Springdale, Ark.) got a little bit more of a test, saving both shots on goal to preserve the shutout.  Gartner improved to 1-2 on the year, lowering her goals against average to 0.67.  Anderson was very active during the afternoon, attempting five shots.  Taryn MacMillan finished with three as well.

Concordia extends their win streak over Minnesota Crookston to five and improved their record to 11-5 overall against UMC.

The Golden Bears are back in action tomorrow afternoon at Bemidji State (4-1, 1-1 NSIC) at 1:00 p.m.  Watch the game and follow the live stats online.
