ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Concordia University soccer team (5-11, 4-9 NSIC) rode a three goal first half to beat the Sioux Falls Cougars (2-13-1, 2-10-1 NSIC) on Sunday afternoon at Sea Foam Stadium. Concordia improved to 4-0 all-time against USF and scored three goals in a game for just the second time all season.
Emily Ecklund got the scoring going early with a beautiful corner that snuck past the goalie in the 10th minute to give CU a 1-0 advantage. Alahna Anderson joined into the action with her second multi-goal game of the year, scoring two goals just under 2:30 minutes apart. The first goal came off a free kick from 30 yards out in the 15th minute. Anderson set up from the left side and sent a line drive shot over the head of the outstretched goalie and into the net. She picked up her second goal of the game and team leading eighth of the season in a header in the box off a feed from Chloe Moore to put the Golden Bears up 3-0 in just the 18th minute. Sioux Falls was only able to muster two shots on goal in the first half as Concordia's usually stellar defense kept the ball away from keeper Kayla Kuczaboski.
The Cougars showed some signs of life in the second half but were unable to get back in the game. In the 72nd minute USF drew up a creative play off a free kick that got Tia Ferrando free for a look from 15 yards out and she hit the post, keeping the score at 3-0. Sioux Falls finally broke the shutout in the 82nd minute as Tia Ferrando put home a shot from the left side of the net for her third goal of the year.
Kuczaboski evened her record to 4-4 on the season with the win and Corrin Cook fell to 2-10-1 for the Cougars.
Concordia finishes off their home schedule this Friday at 7:00 p.m. at Sea Foam Stadium as the Golden Bears play host to Winona State. They finish off the regular season next Sunday in Upper Iowa at 1:00 p.m.
