Concordia falls short at Augustana in a 3-1 loss Saturday afternoon

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Concordia Golden Bears soccer team fell to 3-8 and 2-6 in the NSIC on Saturday with a 3-1 loss to the Vikings of Augustana (8-3, 6-2 NSIC).  Alahna Anderson continued her torrid play by picking up her team leading fourth goal on the year but the Golden Bears offense wasn't able to capitalize on any other scoring chances in the loss.  Anderson has now scored in three of the past four games.

The first half featured some action packed play with four goals being registered in the first 25 minutes of the game.  The Vikings struck first in the sixth minute when Maren Werth headed in her ninth goal of the year.  Concordia didn't wait long to even it back up as Alahna Anderson picked up a ball that goalie Ashley Limmer mishandled and buried to get the Golden Bears on the board in the tenth minute.  Augie turned up the heat the rest of the half and regained the lead on Werth's second goal of the game and tenth of the year in the 25th minute.  Werth gathered a ball just outside the 18 yard box and put it past goalie Kayla Kuczaboski.  Just a minute and a half later the Golden Bears committing a miscue that resulted in an own goal which put them down by two at 3-1.  Augustana missed another great opportunity a few minutes later on a shot off the crossbar.  CU regained some momentum near the end of the half but were unable to cut into the lead.

The second half lacked the scoring punch that the first half had as both teams regained some defensive composure.  Concordia fought hard but couldn't get back in it as the Vikings held onto their 3-1 advantage to put the game away.

Concordia is back in action in Wayne State tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 p.m.  Follow the game live online.
