ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Concordia University soccer team was able to capitalize on a pair of corner kicks in the first period and a pair of breakaway goals in the second en route to a 4-0 victory over Northern State on Sunday afternoon.
Amanda Olsen (Cottage Grove, Minn.) tallied four assists, setting the school record for most assists in a game. The Golden Bears cap their five-game homestand with an overall record of 4-3-1 and a 3-1-1 mark in the NSIC.
It didn't take long for CU to light up the scoreboard as it scored 1:11 into the game. Olsen placed a corner kick right in front of the net where
Chloe Moore (Lakeville, Minn.) knocked in the header for her third goal of the season.
Another corner kick in the 10th minute resulted in a 2-0 lead. Once again, Olsen fired a corner kick in from the left side and found
Brittany Kapala (Fridley, Minn.). Kapala tallied her third goal of the season on the rebound and the score remained 2-0 at halftime. The Golden Bears outshot the Wolves 12-to-5 in the half with a 7-to-2 corner kick advantage.
The Golden Bears started the second half quickly, increasing their lead 3-0 at the 50:12 mark. Olsen led
Arielle Stimson (Lakeville, Minn.) up the left side on a breakaway and Stimson did the rest. She faked to the right and went left past the keeper for her fifth goal of the season.
In nearly identical fashion, Olsen hooked up with Stimson for another breakaway goal at the 77:54 mark – her sixth of the year – for a commanding 4-0 lead.
Emma Gartner (Springdale, Ark.) got the start in goal for CU and responded with seven saves in the shutout, improving to 3-1-0. Her counterpart, Kourtney Woracek tallied seven saves as well, falling to 2-4-1.
Concordia hits the road on September 29 for a game at Minot State. The Bears and Beavers will kickoff at 1:00 p.m.
