ST. PAUL, Minn. – With just seconds remaining in overtime,
Amanda Olsen (Cottage Grove, Minn.) broke away from defenders and netted the game-winning goal as time expired giving the Concordia University soccer team a thrilling 3-2 win over MSU Moorhead on Saturday afternoon. The Golden Bears are now 3-0-1 at home, 3-3-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the NSIC.
To start the game, MSU Moorhead went ahead 1-0 at the 26:50 mark in the first on a breakaway goal by Erin Nyberg and held that lead through break.
Arielle Stimson (Lakeville, Minn.) knotted the game at one apiece in the 58th minute after knocking in a header off a free kick by
Kim Sauberlich (Appleton, Wis.).
The Golden Bears scored the go-ahead goal at the 74:21 mark as
Brittany Kapala (Fridley, Minn.) beat the keeper from right in front of the net for a 2-1 lead, but just over six minutes later the Dragons tied the score at 2-2. Isabel Neyman nailed a shot from 35 yards out into the top of the net and the game was sent into overtime.
Concordia nearly ended the game on the first three shots it took in the extra period until Olsen's last-second shot found the back of the net.
Kayla Kuczaboski (Vadnais Heights, Minn.) earned the win in goal with six saves, while Victoria Hoffman took the loss after making seven saves.
Concordia returns to Sea Foam Stadium on Sunday afternoon for a 1:00 p.m. match-up against Northern State.
