Golden Bears top Minnesota, Crookston 3-1

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Concordia University soccer team defeated Minnesota, Crookston 3-1 Sunday afternoon at Sea Foam Stadium. The Golden Bears improve to 2-3-1 overall and 1-1-1 in the NSIC, while the Golden Eagles fall to 0-6 overall and 0-3 in the league.

Chloe Moore (Lakeville, Minn.) got the scoring started 6:47 into the first period. Amanda Olsen (Cottage Grove, Minn.) fired a corner kick right in front of the goal where Moore was able to put a header in for her second goal of the season. Soon after in the 10th minute, Olsen took a sharp-angle shot from the right side that deflected off a Golden Eagle defender and into the net. Brittany Kapala (Fridley, Minn.) was credited with the assist.

Concordia put up its third goal of the half at the 28:55 mark. Jess Bianchi (Rogers, Minn.) netter her second goal of the year on an assist from Kaylyn Rae Smith (Dekalb, Ill.) and the score was 3-0 at the break.

After 27:20 of scoreless second period action, the Golden Eagles ended the shutout. Rachel Halligan put in a header on a corner kick by Megan Flynn. But that was all the visitors would manage on offense and the score was a 3-1 final.

The CU defense was stout, helping out keeper Emma Gartner (Springdale, Ark.) as she faced only two shots on goal with one save. On the offensive side, Concordia tallied 19 shots, 12 of which on goal.

Concordia continues its home stand on September 22 against MSU Moorhead. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. at Sea Foam Stadium.
