Golden Bears Head on the Road

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Golden Bears (22-17, 7-9 NSIC) will look to get back on track this weekend as they head out on the road for the first time for a weekend conference double header. The first stop will be at Bemidji State (9-26, 2-14 NSIC) on Saturday and then Minnesota Duluth (29-17, 11-5 NSIC) on Sunday. LIVE STATS

After four straight games against some of the top competition in the NSIC, CU heads up north for four games against Bemidji State and Minnesota Duluth. The Beavers are sitting in the cellar of the NSIC with a 2-14 record and 9-26 overall on the season. UMD is in fourth place, 11-5 in the NSIC and 29-17 overall. Duluth is also ahead of Concordia in the regional poll sitting in the seventh spot.

The Beavers find themselves outside the top ten in almost ever statistical offensive category. They are second in the NSIC in strikeouts with 193 on the year. The Bemidji State pitching staff is seventh in the NSIC in strikeouts with 162 on the year. On the year BSU is hitting .203 on the year with just 22 extra base hits on the year and just four home runs. The team's on base percentage is .250 on the year and a slugging percentage of .241.

Their pitching staff is led by Courtney Anderson who is 6-8 on the year with a 2.35 ERA on the season. She has given up 37 earned runs in 110.0 innings of work. The team has an overall ERA of 4.31 on the season giving up 17 homers on the year and giving up 82 extra base hits on the year. Opponents are hitting .313 as a team off the Beavers staff.

Concordia and the Bulldogs met up to start the Golden Bears season in a non-conference double header splitting it as UMD won the first game 4-3 and CU picked up the 4-2 win in the second game. In game one the Golden Bears took a 3-0 lead in the first two innings. Calli Brennan (Mendota Heights, Minn.) had a two run homer in the first inning and then picked up a run via an error. UMD scored three runs in the fifth inning and then one more in the sixth to complete the comeback. 

The Golden Bears also scored three runs in the first two innings, picking up one in the first and then two in the second on a two run homer by Missie Feuerbach (Iowa City, Iowa). After UMD cut the lead to 3-2 in the fifth inning, Bekah Roth (Shoreview, Minn.) put CU up by two with a homer of her own. Stephanie Kappes (Circle Pines, Minn.) got the complete game win.

Minnesota Duluth is hitting .289 on the year, eighth in the NSIC and slugging .429 which is fifth in the conference. The Bulldogs have 54 doubles on the year and 35 homers on the year. Duluth has struck out 190 times on the season third most in the NSIC. Tyra Kerr is leading the conference with 60 hits on the year and Kierra Jeffers has 36 RBI, 31 runs scored and leads the NSIC with 11 homers.

UMD's pitching staff is fourth in the NSIC with a 2.44 ERA on the season. Opponents are hitting just .231 off them on the year. Julia Nealer is sixth in the NSIC with a 1.91 ERA on the year. Their ace Megan Mullen has thrown a league high 214.2 innings and has struck out 215 batters, also leading the league and fifth in the nation. Mullen has 19 wins on the year which ranks first in the conference as well.
