TUCSON, Ariz. - Concordia University's (4-4) three-four hitters,
Bryan Lippincott (Des Moines, Iowa) and
Logan Bouts (Hopkins, Minn.) each had 5-hit performances, combining to go 10-for-12 to lead the Golden Bears to a 20-6 victory over Southern Vermont College (1-8) on Thursday morning. Lippincott went 5-for-7 with four RBI and is now hitting .581 while Bouts went 5-for-5 to raise his season mark to .469. Concordia has scored 36 runs over the last 17 innings in back-to-back wins. Lippincott is now 11-for-15 in the last three games with 11 RBI and has hit safely in seven straight games.
Freshman
Kyle Dalton (Minnetonka, Minn.) continues his hot streak and his hit in six straight. He went 4-for-5 today, scoring three runs while slugging a double and a triple. He's scored seven runs in the last two games and is 15-for-24 during his hitting streak.
Concordia started strong today by posting a 7-run second inning with senior
Kris Long (Rochester, Minn.) delivering a 2-run single, Dalton adding an RBI ground rule double to left, junior
Paul Giel (Minnetonka, Minn.) placing a 2-run single up the middle and Lippincott driving a 2-run single to right.
Giel went 2-for-6 with four RBI.
They added two more in the third and another in the fourth to build a 10-0 lead.
Meanwhile, junior right handed pitcher
Zach Goodwin (Mahtomedi, Minn.) was in charge on the mound, needing just over 30 pitches to roll through the first three innings, stranding a runner on third in the first inning. He retired seven straight hitters before stranding a 2-out single in the third.
He gave up a 2-out, 2-run double in the fourth and a 2-out RBI double in the fifth before leaving with a healthy 10-3 lead.
He needed just 77 pitches (53 strikes) while allowing three runs on six hits with three strikeouts and a walk. He earned the win to improve to 2-0 on the year.
Concordia scored 10 more runs in the late innings, plating four in the seventh and six more in the ninth.
In the ninth inning, Concordia's bench did the damage. Junior
Jared Kramer (Wausau, Wis.) continued to be productive by producing a 2-run single with the bases loaded and junior
Mick Sawinski (St. Louis Park, Minn.) hit a bases clearing double.
In the bottom of the inning, freshman right hander
Nate Reagles (Apple Valley, Minn.) made his debut, pitching a scoreless inning with two strikeouts.
Junior left hander
Griff Kilber (Chanhassen, Minn.) worked the sixth through eighth innings, striking out five while allowing three runs on two hits and two walks in three frames.
The Golden Bears hit seven extra base hits: four doubles (Lippincott, Bouts, Dalton and Sawinski) and three triples (
Greg Larpenter,
Doug Stearns and Dalton).
Connor Murray took the loss for SVC, allowing 10 runs (nine earned) in six innings with four strikeouts.
Pat Warrington was 3-4 with two doubles, two runs and two RBI while Dillon Desiderato and Chris Nicastro each drove in a pair.
Concordia returns to the diamond tomorrow for their fourth game of the week against Southwest Minnesota State (6-3). The Mustangs have won three straight and four of their last five. Concordia has won two straight and is 4-2 on their spring trip with a 2-1 record head-to-head against SMSU.
