POOR OUTSIDE SHOOTING DIFFERENCE IN LOSS

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Minnesota State (15-8, 11-8 NSIC) came to the Gangelhoff Center and shut down Concordia's (10-15, 7-12 NSIC) outside shooting and walked away with the 71-65 win as a result. The Golden Bears were just 1-11 from downtown tying a season low for made three pointers on the night. Anika Whiting(Ashland, Wis.) had 17 points on the night to lead CU in scoring. BOX SCORE

WhitingBoth the Golden Bears and the Mavericks were able to find scoring in the paint as they combined for 74 points, MSU held the slight advantage 38-36. Concordia was able to get to the free throw line often and took advantage finishing 20-24 on the day. MSU's bench outscored CU's 13-8 on the afternoon.

The game was close from the opening tip with CU knowing this was a big game if they want to make the NSIC Tournament. Concordia had a 6-2 lead in the opening three minutes of play but the Mavericks quickly scored five straight to take a one point lead. Mandy Poke (Richfield, Minn.) hit a three in the corner to put CU back on top a minute later. The Mavs would take the lead back at the 12:25 mark and would keep that lead until Jodi Batzel (Rochester, Minn.) put CU up 21-19 with 6:14 left before half.Hansen

With the CU lead at 22-19 with 4:54 left MSU went on a run, finishing the half outscoring CU 11-2 and taking a six point lead into the locker room. Rachel Hansen (Eagan, Minn.) led CU in scoring in the first half with eight points, she was 4-4 from the foul line in the first half.

Concordia quickly erased the six point deficit in the second half, starting the half on a 19-8 run to take a 43-38 lead with 12:19 left. Minnesota Stat go on a 7-2 run to tie the game up at 45, the Mavs took the lead back at the 8:46 mark with a pair of free throws and CU never recovered.

BatzelThe Mavericks lead would grow to as big as ten with 3:19 left. Concordia had a chance to get within a possession but turned the ball over down 60-55 with 5:14 left as Hansen was called for a charge. Concordia cut the lead to six a few times but never got any closer falling by six 71-65. 

With the loss CU will finish the regular season below .500 for the first time since 2000-01. The Golden Bears will need to make the NSIC Tournament and win the Tournament in order to avoid finishing a season below .500 since that 2000-01 season.
