ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Concordia University soccer team picked up three points in the NSIC standings on Sunday afternoon with a 2-1 victory over the visiting Augustana Vikings.
Amanda Olsen (Cottage Grove, Minn.) scored both goals for the Golden Bears as they improve to 6-5-1 overall and 5-3-1 league play.
Olsen scored her first goal of the game in the 19th minute of the opening period. A shot by
Chloe Moore (Lakeville, Minn.) was blocked by Augustana goalkeeper Amanda Wagner that bounced off the crossbar and Olsen put in the rebound –
Jess Bianchi (Rogers, Minn.) was also credited with the assist. Wagner was injured on the play and Ashley Limmer came off the bench to play the remainder of the game.
Concordia held a 1-0 lead at the break but the Vikings quickly answered 1:23 into the second frame. Kara Bartels took a high shot from just outside the six-yard box to tie the game at 1-1.
It wasn't until the 84th minute until Olsen tallied what proved to be the game-winning goal. The senior forward found an open shot from 17 yards out and top-shelved her team-leading seventh goal of the season.
Emma Gartner (Springdale, Ark.) made a few crucial saves in the final minutes to preserve the victory and improve her record to 5-2. She made seven saves as the Vikings tallied a total of 13 shots. The Golden Bears fired eight shots throughout the contest.
The Golden Bears are back on the road on October 12 at St. Cloud State. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
