ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Concordia University soccer team was shutout 3-0 by Upper Iowa on Friday night, marking its first loss at Sea Foam Stadium and second shutout this year. The Golden Bears fall to 8-8-1 overall and 7-6-1 in the NSIC.
Upper Iowa notched the first goal of the game off the foot of Liz Kaluzinski at the 39:58 mark. Her first shot bounced off the right post but rebounded back for an easy open net goal. The score remained 1-0 at halftime as the Peacocks outshot the Golden Bears 6-to-4 in the first 45 minutes.
In the 77th minute, Amanda Millard put the Peacocks up 2-0 in similar fashion to their first goal. Millard's initial shot was deflected by a defender but she gained the rebound and found the back of the net. With 5:56 remaining in the contest, Kali Loescher added an insurance score with a goal that sailed over the head of
Kayla Kuczaboski (Vadnais Heights, Minn.) for a 3-0 final.
Kuczaboski dropped her record to 3-4-1 after collecting three saves. On the other end of the pitch, Amanda Smith made six saves in the shutout. The Peacocks outshot the Bears 16-to-11.
The Golden Bears have one game remaining in the regular season, which will take place Sunday at Winona State beginning at 1:00 p.m. CU is tied for eighth place with St. Cloud State in the league standings and the top eight teams make the playoffs. The Huskies own the tiebreaker since they defeated the Bears 2-1 on October 12.
