DULUTH, Minn. – The Concordia University soccer team couldn't find its first victory on the road this season, dropping a 4-2 decision at Minnesota Duluth on Sunday afternoon. The Golden Bears fall to 6-7-1 overall and 5-5-1 in the NSIC.
Minnesota Duluth struck first in the 25th minute on a goal by Dani Potter. Just over seven minutes later,
McKenzie Buck (Hudson, Wis.) tied the game with her first career goal, assisted by
Jess Bianchi (Rogers, Minn.) – her fourth. The two teams were close to go into halftime tied at 1-1, but Maureen Stormont had other ideas and gave the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead with 1:03 left in the half.
The Bulldogs increased their lead to 3-1 in the 67th minute as Kelsey Gratz scored. Concordia answered at the 70:52 mark, cutting the deficit back to one goal.
Amanda Olsen (Cottage Grove, Minn.) tallied her team-leading eighth goal of the season, while Buck posted her third point in the match with the assist. It only took Minnesota Duluth 3:09 after Olsen's goal to score an insurance goal, though, for a 4-2 advantage.
Concordia was outshot 17-to-13 and its shots-on-goal were doubled by the Bulldogs at 8-to-4. The Golden Bears were also limited to just one corner kick for the second straight game.
Emma Gartner (Springdale, Ark.) suffered the loss after making four saves. The first-year goalkeeper is now 5-4 on the year.
Concordia continues action on the road on October 20 at Sioux Falls. Kickoff is set for 11:00 a.m.
