Wolyniec scorches bemidji state with 7 3-pointers

bemidji, minn. - concordia university sophomore guard carissa wolyniec (minneapolis, minn.) made a career-high seven three-point field goals as the golden bears (7-10, 4-7 nsic) made a season-high 13 as a team. The three-point fest helped them cruise to a 93-69 road win at bemidji state (5-11, 3-8) on saturday afternoon at bsu gym. the golden bears delivered three-pointers on six of their first seven baskets in building a 20-11 early lead with wolyniec scoring 15 points on five three-pointers in that span.

wolyniec would go 6-6 from behind the arc in the first half with the golden bears making nine three-pointers as a team (9-13, 69.2%) in building a 45-22 halftime lead.

wolyniec would finish the night 7-10 from three-point range, had 23 points, nine rebounds and three assists for the game.

inside the arc, junior guard anne skriba (la crosse, wis.) was perfect by making 3-3 from the floor and 4-4 at the line to keep the beaver defense guessing. She scored 10 of her career-high 14 points in the first half off the bench and finished 4-5 from the floor and 6-6 at the line.

concordia led by as many as 32 points in the second half, and bemidji state's only lead was in the opening minutes.

five players scored in double-figures for concordia as sophomore rachel hansen (eagan, minn.) scored 14 to go with seven assists and five rebounds. She also made a pair of three-pointers. Junior mandy poke (richfield, minn.) buried three three-pointers and scored 11 points with six rebounds in a return to the starting lineup while freshman anika whiting (ashland, wis.) scored 11 points with five rebounds.

nearly reaching double-figures was freshman tierra bender (milwaukee, wis.) with nine points on 3-4 shooting while dropping six assists.

bemidji state was led by kate warmack's 17 points and six rebounds while morgan lee added 14 off the bench. No one else reached double-figures for bsu.

concordia, who shot 61.2% (30-49) for the game, was stifling bsu defensively. They held the beavers to just 36.8% (21-57) shooting in their own gym. Concordia also controlled the glass with a 36-26 advantage.

concordia returns home next weekend, hosting msu moorhead on friday night at 6:00 p.m. For golden bear bash before hosting minnesota crookston on saturday night at 4:00 p.m.
