crookston, minn. - the #1 golden bears (12-0, 4-0 nsic) won their 76th straight regular season nsic match and 24 straight win with a 3-0 (25-13, 25-7, 25-18) sweep of minnesota, crookston (4-8, 0-4 nsic). Concordia was led offensively by kayla koenecke (delano, minn.) and megan carlson (andover, minn). Koenecke finished with 13 kills and carlson had 12. amanda konetchy (victoria, minn.) finished with 39 asssists and carlson led the way with 15 digs on her way to a double-double. box score | live stats
ellie duffy (fridley, minn.) and katie habeck (farmington, minn.) each had seven kills on the evening as the cu offense hit .351. taylor fieldsted (lakeville, minn.) had 13 digs finishing just behind carlson. Carlson and fieldsted combined for 28 of the 43 digs by cu on the evening. Both habeck and koenecke had four blocks on the evening. ashley murtha (apple valley, minn.) tied her career high with three kills on the evening.
set one saw the golden bears force an early timeout scoring the first four points before allowing the golden eagles to get on the board. Umc rebounded and made sure cu did not get to far out in front sticking with cu midway through the set trailing by just three at 13-10. Concordia went on a streak however, scoring six straight points to take a comanding 21-11 lead late on their way to a 25-13 vicotry.
a fast start would be an understatement in set two as cu jumped out to a huge 14-1 lead, including 11 straight at one point. Three aces and four attack errors by the golden eagles were a big part of the reason cu was able to get such a big lead. Umc would not get any closer than 12 in the second set as cu won the set 25-7.
the third set was the most competitive as umc held a lead at 11-10 midway through the set. The golden eagles' lead was as big as 16-13 as the golden bears needed to rally to earn a sweep late in the set. Three straight points including two kills by carlson tied the match at 16. Concordia took the lead for good scoring four straight points to take a 20-17 lead and forcing a umc timeout. Another run finished off the match for cu as koenecke had a kill to end the set on a five point run winning 25-18.
concordia will back on the court tomorrow afternoon against msu-moorhead at 4:00 p.m.
