concordia also got 10 kills from cassie haag and nine from her fellow middle, katie habeck. amanda konetchy had 26 assists and nine digs in a complete effort from the all-american. The golden bears hit an outstanding .452 on the evening with just five total errors. There were just two lead changes and three ties the whole match as cu made a very early statement for the 2011 season.
in the first set cu jumped out to an early 7-4 lead thanks to back to back aces by fieldsted. The jennies pulled within one at 7-6 but two straight concordia points gave them some more breathing room. The set deciding run came as the golden bears went on a 7-2 run taking a 16-9 lead midway through the set. Carlson had four kills during the stretch. Concordia finished the match on a 9-2 run in route to a 25-12 set win. Fieldsted was a big part of the cu defense in set one as she alone had eight digs.
the golden bears came out on fire in set two scoring the first eight points of the set. Habeck had four kills and cu forced three ucm attack errors during the streak. Concordia never looked back as the lead grew as large as 19-5. Habeck lead the way in set two with her four kills and two blocks. kayla koenecke and carlson each had three kills as cu hit .483 in the set winning by a score of 25-12. Through the first two sets ucm was held to just 15 kills. Concordia converted 11-12 side out attempts in set two.
the rolling continued into set three as again cu jumped out early, this time to a 9-4 lead. Both habeck and koenecke had two kills in the early going. Ucm pulled within four at 13-9 but carlson kept cu head in large part to four kills in the middle part of the match. Haag and carlson combine for six kills as the golden bears took back the momentum and lead 21-12 late in the set. The teams traded points as cu took set three 25-16. Both carlson and haag had five kills each in set three. The team also had 18 digs in the set, with both carlson and konetchy adding five each.
the golden bears put their 50 home match winning streak online tomorrow as their schedule has them facing the #9 and #25 ranked teams in the nation. The first match is at 3 p.m. Against #9 wayne state who went 1-1 on the day losing to #2 ucm but upsetting #6 southwest minnesota state. #25 northern michigan is also 1-1 after losing to #6 southwest minnesota state and beating pittsburg state. Cu’s match against northern michigan is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
