saint paul, minn. - the golden bears got off to a hot start friday morning at the gangelhoff center sweeping pittsburg state by the score of 25-6, 25-11, 25-11. Senior
megan carlson led the way with 13 kills and nine digs. Sophomore
kayla koenecke added nine kills and nine assists as well. Concordia hit an outstanding .533 in the match.

taylor fieldsted added eight digs in the defensive effort. The team combined for four blocks as carlson and freshman
katie habeck each had three block assists.

concordia used a 9-1 run in the first set to break it open. During the run carlson had two kills and an ace. The hot hitting continued as the golden bears extended their lead to 17-4. In that stretch of play junior
ellie duffy had her first kill since the 2009 season. Duffy finished the match with two kills and two digs. Concordia went on to win the set 25-6.
with the scored tied at three in the second set cu got some breathing room by scoring four straight points. The defense was big in the stretch causing three continuous attack errors. The set went back and forth as cu held a 13-7 lead midway through the set. A koenecke kill and attack error gave concordia a 15-7 advantage as they started to pull away.
cassie haag added three kills over the next eight points giving cu a 20-9 advantage. Habeck punctuated the set two win with a kill to make it 25-11.

ashley murtha saw some court time. It took a bit for cu to settle down in the third set as a pair of attack errors gave pitt state a 3-1 lead. Cu scored the next three however to take a 4-3 lead and never let pitt state take the lead back. Three straight errors by the gorillas and a kill by murtha, her first of her career, provided cu with a 9-4 lead. Konetchy had a rare kill in the third set and graham had back to back kills to give concordia a 17-6 lead late in the match. From that point on the golden bears kept up the pressure to finish off pitt state 25-11.
in the match concordia had just three errors compared to the 22 committed by the gorillas. Habeck went 5-6 without an error in her first collegiate match on her way to a .833 hitting night. Carlson finished the match hitting .619 with zero errors as well.
