crookston, minn. - the golden bears (29-19, 12-12 nsic) were able to sweep the golden eagles of minnesota, crookston, (8-28, 2-20 nsic) saturday afternoon by the scores of 10-1 and 6-1. Concordia hit a homerun in each game and has now homered in seven consecutive games and as well as increasing their season total to 51.
cassye mcmahon picked up the win in game one and
stephanie schmikla earned the win in the final game of the twin bill.

concordia scored in the first inning as
katie anderson led of the game with a single and
calli brennan deposited a ball over the fence for a two run homer. Umc got a run back in the bottom of the inning as the first two batters of the inning reached followed by a one out single to bring home the run.
the golden bears responded in the top of the second by scoring three more runs.
tessa ewert led off the inning with a double and moved to third on a one out single by
katie feuerbach. The bases were loaded for anderson but a grounder to third was fielded and thrown home to cut down ewert.
brynn larsen delivered with two outs pounding a triple and driving in three. Mcmahon settled down in the second and pitched around a leadoff walk.
an error helped allowed cu to extend their lead to 6-1 as ewert picked up an rbi scoring
sami mattson. Mcmahon stranded two umc runners in the bottom of the third as the golden eagles failed to bring in runs. Concordia continued to hit the ball well as they racked up four hits and scored four more runs in the top of the fourth. Anderson and larsen led off the inning with singles, brennan continued her hot game as she hit a double to bring home anderson. Mattson walked to keep the threat alive as
erin tjornhom picked up an rbi and then k. Feuerbach doubled to drive in two more runs.
minnesota, crookston picked up another hit in the fourth but again failed to bring anybody home. Cu's anderson picked up another hit in the top of the fifth but failed to score as well. Mcmahon put umc down in order in the fifth as they picked up the 10-1 win.
game 2
anderson started game two with a double but was stranded as umc was able to pitch around a walk and an error later in the inning. Schmikla also pitched out of a jam in her half of the first as she allowed a leadoff walk followed by a walk. She got a much needed double play to get two down with a runner on second. A cu error put more pressure on schmikla as umc had the bases loaded with two out. A swinging strikeout ended the inning as the game was tied at zero after one.
it was a quiet second inning for both teams as the game remained scoreless. Larsen picked up a single in the third with one out and then scored on brennan's single as cu took a 1-0 lead. Umc responded quickly as leadoff walk came back to haunt schmikla.
concordia got the lead back in the top of the fourth as k. Feuerbach opened up the inning with a single and scored on a two out single by larsen. Schmikla kept the golden eagles off the board in the bottom of the inning. Cu was able to break the game open a little bit in the fifth as the scored two runs on a pair of hits. Brennan singled and pinch ran for by schmikla, after ewert reached on an error
missie feuerbach doubled scoring both runners giving cu a 4-1 lead after the top of the fifth. Schmikla picked up another double play in the fifth to help cu keep the three run lead.
neither team scored or picked up a hit in the sixth as the game went into the seventh with cu holding the 4-1 lead. The golden bears got some insurance runs in the top of the seventh as mattson singled and then tjornhom hit a homerun to start the inning. Cu held on and took game two 6-1.
the golden bears scheduled doubleheader against minnesota state moorhead of sunday was moved to monday afternoon at 2 and 4 p.m. That will represent the last regular season home games for the golden bears.
