Wildcats complete 4-game series sweep despite gutty effort from cu

st. Paul, minn. - the concordia baseball team (14-11, 8-8 nsic) dropped to sixth in the nsic as wayne state (18-16, 11-9 nsic) jumped ahead of them, completing the four game series sweep today at barnes field with 16-6 and 6-3 decisions. Sophomore andy fagely (mahtomedi, minn.) threw 9-inning complete game in the finale in a gutty effort while junior bryan lippincott (des moines, iowa) extended his hitting streak to a school record 23 games, going 4-6 with a homer, a double, two runs and three rbi in the doubleheader. game 1 box | game 2 box

concordia had their chances in both games. They led 6-4 in the fifth inning of game one when lippincott delivered a crushing two run homer to dead center, putting cu ahead 5-4. They added a run in the inning to take the two run lead into the late innings.

wayne state countered with an 8-run sixth inning and put up four more in the seventh.

in game two, senior sam fagely (mahtomedi, minn.) delivered a two out double in the seventh inning and lippincott followed with a single to right. S.fagely was sent home, but wildcat right fielder mike bisenius came up with a strong throw to beat s.fagely at the plate to end the inning.

he was the tying run at the time, too, as concordia trailed 4-3. Wayne state would score twice in the eighth and concordia wouldn't have an answer in the late inings against left hander eric schwieger who went the distance for the win.

concordia hits the road on tuesday when they face augustana in sioux falls, s.d. For an nsic midweek doubleheader. Augustana is currently in fourth in the league, providing a big opportunity for cu to get back on track against a quality opponent.
