orlando, fla. - the golden bears (8-3) softball team keeps finding ways to win as they continue their spring trip in sunny florida. Concordia went 1-1 on sunday winning their first game 9-1 over ashland (ohio) to extend their winning streak to seven before falling to california (pa.) 7-3 in the afternoon. On monday morning the team got back to its winning ways by picking off northern kentucky 3-1.

over the last two days cu has been led by ashley kluever who is now 5-1 in the circle this year. On sunday she pitched a complete game going six innings allowing just one run and four hits while striking out three. She did not allow an extra base hit in the game as she lowered her era to 1.93. She was even better monday morning as she threw another complete game going seven innings and tying her season high with nine strikeouts on the day. She allowed six hits and an unearned run in the victory lowering her era once again, it now sits 1.59 for the year.
concordia 9, ashland 1:
the golden bears got their third win of the year in five inning games as they took care of ashland university on saturday morning. Cu scored six runs in the first three innings to take control early, scoring four in the bottom of the third alone.
in the bottom of the first cu scored twice, the inning started with katie anderson getting hit and bryn larsen walked. Anderson stole second prior to the walk as concordia had runners on first and second with no outs. Calli brennan singled to load the bases her 11 hit in her last 16 at bats. Sami mattson drew a walk to force in anderson and larsen then scored on a wild pitch moments later. Ashland responded with a run in the top of the second. It was a quiet bottom of the second and top of third for both teams before cu opened the flood gates in the bottom of three. The inning started with a larsen walk, she advanced to third to two wild pitches. Mattson reached on a fielders choice scoring larsen from third. Mattson advanced to second on a past ball and third on another wild pitch, the third of the inning. Erin tjornhom walked and missie feuerbach singled scoring mattson and advancing tjornhom to the third. Katie feuerbach followed with her own single advancing to second on a throwing error, before being thrown out trying to advance to third. M. Feuerbach and tjornhom scored to bring the cu lead to 6-1.
the golden bears added two runs in the bottom of the fourth, they loaded the bases with nobody out thanks to two singles and a walk. Roth was forced out at home for the first out, keeping the bases loaded. Mattson singled scoring anderson. Next tjornhom singled to score larsen. Concordia added their ninth run of the game in the bottom of the sixth as larsen scored on a tjornhom single.
california (pa.) 7, concordia 3:
in the afternoon game cu fell behind quickly allowing three runs in the first two innings. California (pa.) added another in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead in to the top of the sixth. The golden bears struck for a run in the sixth when larsen tripled with one out and scored on a brennan single.
california (pa.) countered with three runs in the top of the sixth scoring their three suns on two hits and one error. Concordia rallied in the seventh with two outs. Roth and anderson walked and larsen singled scoring roth and anderson. Anderson came home on a throwing error by the third baseman. The rally came up short as brennan flied out to centerfield to end the game.
concordia 3, northern kentucky 1: the golden bears and nku had a tough battle on monday morning with concordia coming through 3-1. Ashley kluever picked up the win hurling seven innings and did not allow and earned run. She struck out nine and allowed six hits and just one extra base hit.
cu struck in the top of the first, anderson started the game with a single to short. Larsen reached on a fielding error while trying to sacrifice anderson. A double steal by anderson and larsen forced an over throw to third and anderson scored on the over throw.
neither team scored in the second and third innings as nku had the only hit during the time frame. Kluever pitched out of one out bases loaded jam in the top of the third. She allowed a one single followed by m. Mcqueen reaching on an error and a walk. Kluever got two straight pop ups to end the threat. Cu got a run in the bottom of the fourth with a mattson homer to lead of the inning, her fifth bomb of the season.
nku responded with a run of their own in the top of fifth as the first batter of the inning reached on an error and scored on a e. Schwaeble double. Clinging to a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth they got some breathing room with a two out rally. Tjornhom reached on a single to third and scored on a roth double to right center. Kluever got the first two batters out in the seventh before giving up a single up the middle. She got the final batter of the game out on a swinging strikeout.
concordia 11, holy family 2: cu had their best offense game of their rebel spring games so far on manday as they took care of holy family 11-2 in five innnings. They are now 4-0 in run rule games this year as their six run top of the fourth put the game out of reach for good. Cassye mcmahon improved to 2-0 on the season as she pitched all five innings with allowing just one earned run and striking out five. She allowed seven hits in the game but just two were for extra bases.
the golden bears scored in the first inning for the seventh time this season, they are 7-0 now when they score in the first inning. Anderson started the game off with a triple and scored as brenna reached on an error. Holy family responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the second. In the top of the second tjornhom opened with a single followed and with one out k. Feuerbach hit her first homerun of the season to give cu a 3-1 lead.
concordia got another homerun in the top of the third as calli brennan homered scoring larsen who started the inning with a single. Hf started the bottom of the third with a single, the third straight inning they got their lead runner on. The did not score for the second time as mcmahon pitched out of a jam that had runners on second and third with nobody out.
the game was busted wide open in the top of the fourth as concordia scored six runs off seven hits. The fourth started with the feuerbach sisters both reaching base as katie reached on a single and missie reached on a fielder's choice. Katie was safe at second because of a throwing error. Ewert singled to load the bases up with no outs. Anderson singled to score both of the feuerbach's and increase the cu lead to 7-1. Larsen then singled to load the bases up again and brennan doubled to score anderson and ewert as larsen advanced to third. Mattson grounded out to short but larsen was able to score on the play as cu went up 10-1. Megan revoir then singled to score brennan, it was revoir's first hit and rbi of her cu career.
holy family scored a run in the bottom of the fourth but it wasnt enough as cu took the game 11-2 and improved to 9-3 on the season.
