saint cloud, minn. - the golden bears (17-7) fell in their first game of the day sunday, losing to minnesota duluth (10-9) 7-5. missie feuerbach homered for the second straight game and bekah roth had two doubles increasing her season mark to nine which leads the team. brynn larsen went 2-4 with two runs scored in the loss. In the second game cassye mcmahon pitched 6 2/3 of not hit ball as cu won 5-0 over bemidji state (2-9). Concordia also stole six bases in the game. cu\bsu box | cu/umd box
cu vs umd
after the bulldogs put cu down in order in the top of the first, umd scored two runs in the bottom of the first. A one out walk followed by a two run homerun gave minnesota duluth the 2-0 lead.
concordia responded with a run of their own in the top of the second as sami mattson started the inning off with a single. Ashley kluever reached on a one out error as mattson moved to second and scored on a katie feuerbach single. Kluever then put umd down after a lead off single in the bottom half of the inning.
it was a busy third inning for both the bulldogs and the golden bears as they combined for six runs on a two homers. Cu got the scoring started as roth hit a one out ground rule double and m. Feuerbach plated both with a two run homer to give cu a 3-2 lead. The lead was short lived as umd fought their way back. After putting down the first two batters of the inning minnesota duluth caught fire with three straight singles to load the bases. The big hit came next as gardner hit a grand slam to give umd a 6-3 lead.
cu went down in order in the top of the fourth as the ball did not leave the infield. Umd on the other hand increased the lead with a one out single and two out double increasing the bulldog lead to four. Larsen singled to lead off the top of the fifth and went to second on a passed ball. She scored on a error as roth was trying to sacrifice her to third. Down three and with roth at second with nobody out but pair of strikeouts and pop up ended the threat. Umd got a lead off walk in their half of the inning but failed to score a run.
an extremely quiet sixth was next as both teams went down in order. The golden bears tried to rally in the seventh as larsen singled and roth doubled to open the inning. Mattson struck out for the first out of the inning. A wild pitch allowed larsen to score from third but that was all cu could manage as m. Feuerbach struck out and kluever popped up to the pitcher to end the game.
cu vs bsu
the golden bears rebounded in game two as cassye mcmahon was the star of the show coming within one out of no hit ball. She allowed four walks in the game, three prior to giving up the lone hit in the game. She had ten strikeouts in the game as well which was a career high for the senior.
in the first inning mcmahon walked the lead off batter but got a double play and her first of ten strikeouts to put the beavers down. Concordia scored a run the first inning as that continues to be the key this season as cu has gone 15-1 in game where they score in the first inning. Roth had a two out single and scored on mattson's fourth double of the year. Mcmahon put bsu down in order in the second striking out the first two batters. Concordia did not fair better in their half of the inning as they also went down in order.
the beavers got their lead off batter on board again in the third with a walk. After a fielders choice, mcmahon hit a batter as bsu put runners on first and second with one away. Mcmahon dug deep and retired the next two batters. Cu got their second run of the game as anderson reached on a one out error, she proceeded to steal second and scored on larsen double.
mcmahon got a pair of strikeouts in the fourth she kept the beavers hitless, bsu did get a runner on via an error. M. Feuerbach reached on a walk to start the fourth then stole both second and third but cu failed to score as feuerbach was caught trying to steal home. Tessa ewert drew a walk in the inning as well and stole a second. It was her first stolen base of her career. Mcmahon again picked up a pair of strikeouts in the fifth as bsu went down in order once again.
concordia bats came alive again in the bottom of the fifth inning as they gave cassye two more runs helping the pitcher out. Megan revoir reached on an error to start the inning and moved to third on two consecutive ground outs. Roth picked up an rbi driving in revoir with a two out single. Roth stole second and advanced to third on a passed ball putting the pressure on bsu once again. Mattson walked and then stole second as cu was running wild on the base paths. Another passed ball plated roth and gave cu a 4-0 lead after four complete.
bemidji state put the lead off runner on base for the third time in the sixth as another cu error put a runner on first. Mcmahon got a strikeout and then got bsu to ground into another double play to end the inning.
ewert singled to start the bottom of the sixth but was cut down as k. Feuerbach reached on a fielder's choice. Revoir walked to put runners on first and second with one out. Following a anderson fly out to center larsen picked up an rbi single as cu extended their lead to 5-0.
mcmahon entered the top of the seventh without allowing a hit. After a leadoff walk she got back to back strikeouts as she got without one out a no hitter. Erikson ruined the no hit bit with a single. After a wild pitch bsu had runners on second and third with two outs, a walk then loaded the bases as the beavers had their best threat to score. The game ended with a pick off at second base.
the golden bears will be back in action april 2 as they take on st. Cloud state in a double hitter.
