rochester, minn. - the golden bears (0-1) bats were silent in the opening game of 2011 as #24 mesa state shut cu down winning 2-0. Concordia's
ashley kluever pitched a complete game in the loss striking out eight and giving up just two hits in seven innings of work.
erin tjornhom reached base twice for cu having a hit and earning a walk, she also added a stole base.

concordia and mesa state were both held scoreless through the first three innings as cu was the only team to have a hit. In the top of the third
katie feuerbach had a one out single and represented the first base runner for the golden bears season.

katie anderson reached on an error. With runners of first and second and two outs larsen was unable to convert.
mesa state struck in the top of the fourth. Kluever struck out the first batter of the inning but then hit the next batter. Msc pinch ran and then stole second to put a runner on second with one out. Another walk followed by infield single loaded the bases with one down. Mesa state's pile doubled and two runners scored to put them up 2-0 with one out left. Kluever then stuck out the next two batters to end the inning.
cu got a runner on in the bottom of the inning with one out but was unable to get on the score board. Tjornhom led off the bottom of fifth with a single to center and stole second but a strikeout followed by a line out killed the rally. The inning ended as tjornhom was picked off second base.
both teams had runners reach in the sixth off errors but neither team was able to convert the error into a run. Mesa state went down in order in the top of seventh. Concordia got their third hit of the game in the bottom of the seventh, a one out single by kluever. Tjornhom walked putting runners of first and second with one out but a fly out by k. Feuerbach and a roth pop-up ended the game.
the golden bears will back in action tonight at 6 p.m. As they face colorado state-pueblo.
