Comeback falls short for cu

miami shores, fla. - the golden bears (2-1) suffered their first loss of the season, dropping the game to barry (1-2) in overtime after rallying from as much as 20 in the second half, 81-79. anika whiting (ashland, wis.) had 27 points on 11-23 shooting and grabbed eight rebounds. tierra bender (milwaukee, wis.) came off the bench to add 14 points, all in the second half. in the first half both teams shot about the same as barry took a nine point lead at half. The difference was three more made baskets for bu and forcing four more turnovers. Whiting had 15 points in the first half on 6-10 shooting from the field. Barry had a ten point lad with just under 15 minutes left in the half before cu cut that lead to six with seven minutes before half. The buccaneers would not let cu get any closer taking that nine point lead into the locker room.

barry scored the first nine points of the second half extending the lead to 20 with 18:04 remaining. The deficit was still at 15 with 7:30 left before concordia went on a run. Down ten with 3:40 left the golden bears outscored barry 15-5 as jolene blood (mounds view, minn.) hit a three pointer to tie the game up with two seconds left.

in the overtime period bu jumped out to a five point lead in the opening two and half minutes. Concordia could only muster four points in the ot periods as they fell 81-79 coming up just short. Concordia is back on the court tomorrow as they take on nova southeastern at 1:00 p.m.
