Concordia's comeback falls short in ot part deux

fort lauderdale, fla. - the golden bears (2-2) came back from a double digit margin to force overtime for the second straight day and once again fell in the overtime period, losing 76-62 to nova southeastern (2-1). jodi batzel (rochester, minn.) finished with 17 points and nine rebounds. mandy poke (richfield, minn.) added 13 and rachel hansen (eagan, minn.) had 12 in the effort. box score

in the first half concordia led 6-3 after five minutes of play. The sharks took a lead at 7-6 with just over 13 minutes of play and did not give up the lead the rest of the half. An 8-0 run by nsu from the 14:00 minute mark till 10:45 gave the a 13-6 lead. Cu cut the gap to 3 at 13-10 but the sharks went on the offensive again going on a 9-0 run to extend their lead to 22-10. The lead was as big a 13 twice in the half as the sharks went into the break with an eleven point lead at 34-23.

the sharks opened up the second half on a 6-0 run to increase their lead to 40-23. Concordia then went on run in the opening ten minutes to cut the sharks lead to six, outscoring nsu 15-2 over a matter of just over four minutes of play. The sharks could not find the bucket from 16:32 - 9:55 as the golden bears tied the game at 47 thanks to a 19-2 run. Rachel hansen gave cu a lead 50-49, with a three pointer with 9:21 left. The two teams battled back and forth over the next few minutes both holding leads of a one possession each way. The golden bears and sharks were tied with 1:38 left on the clock. Bender hit a free throw to put cu up 59-58 but a jumper by nsic gave them a lead with just over a minute to go. Poke then converted a lay up with 23 seconds left giving concordia a 61-60 lead. Nsu missed a jumper with ten seconds left and carissa wolyniec (minneapolis, minn.) grabbed the rebound. A technical foul was called after the play, as cu called a timeout without having any. Nsu converted one free throw and then missed a three pointer at the buzzer to send the game to overtime.

nova southeastern hit back to back three pointers to start overtime and then hit a lay-up after a cu turnover to take control in the extra period. The sharks outscored concordia 15-1 in the overtime period to take the game.

next friday and saturday concordia will host the radisson roseville classic at the gangelhoff. The golden bears open up with mt. Mercy on friday and then play michigan tech on saturday.
